It would be worthwhile for you to look this topic up on the internet (as it would be for all of us). Just last night, my boyfriend was talking to a nutritionist/naturopath/personal trainer who has an office at the gym we train at. This guy just attended a conference about "spot-reducing". Apparently, the area where you tend to store your fat, wherever it may be, is particularly linked to a certain hormonre. Therefore, should you change your diet in order to eat less of the foods that trigger the release of this particular hormone, you would potentially lose the fat in that area. We didn't go into very much detail, but I am hoping to talk to him about more sometime soon. I will keep you posted on any details I get

Some of the biggest idiots you'll ever meet are "nutritionist/naturopath/personaltrainers." And the worst junk science you'll ever see comes from people selling supplements and/or crazy diets. So I'm sure we'll hear someone soon telling us how to control some stupid hormone so we can spot reduce. Don't believe the hype.

Look, it's very common knowledge that you can't spot reduce. Only liposuction does that. Don't listen to me, look it up in any nonprofit organization's books - try ACE, NSCA, ACSM, etc. None of them believe in that junk.

Yes, dear, there are idiots everywhere...

The idea that is being REVIEWED AND RESEARCHED in this case, is manipulation of one's diet in order to decrease/suppress the secretion of a certain hormone, which is in many ways possible, you only have to think of the control of adult-onset diabetes through better nutritional choices. Physiologically speaking, this is something that may be worth researching. And again, this is something that is being REVIEWED AND RESEARCHED, and I was merely stating that it will be interesting to see what the results are. ACE, NSCA, ACSM, etc, are clear in their indications that neither cardio or training will enable you to spot reduce, which in all evidence, is a fact, and I am not refuting this.

This guy is not an idiot, but likes to keep track of the things that are being REASEARCHED in the area of fitness, health and wellness, as do I.

I am not encouraging anyone to "believe all the hype", nor do I myself "believe all the hype", but I keep my eyes and ears open until I can get a complete and factual picture and then make an informed decision regarding whether or not I believe in this "hype".

My reply may have been a little unclear because I did not start off by telling stalefish that no, as a matter of fact, moving your arms more while running will not make you lose the fat on the sides of your chest. However, moving your arms more when you are running will efficiently increase the intensity of your run and therfore allow you to burn more calories, so it is still a good idea

I'm not about to call Charles Poliquin an idiot!

Wait!! Ian King doesn't know how to train. His ideas are absolutely insane.
