Does the Tracy Anderson Method work?

    Hi,

I wanted to get a professional opinion as to whether you think the Tracy Anderson Method works? Is it true what she says about the accessory muscles being used to pull in the skin so that you don't bulk and you get as she says 'teeny-tiny'. I think her eating plan is too restrictive, do you think you get the same results if you didn't follow her eating plan but followed a healthy, low carb high protein diet?

    Hey CDias,

I've never heard of this method before.... could you explain it a little more? As for the accessory muscle comment... I'm not sure where this Tracy Anderson person is getting her theories from, but I wouldn't put too much stock in this statement. You have to train a certain way (high volume) or take in more calories than you burn to get bulky. Also, women tend not to get bulky because they don't have the testosterone needed to add enough muscle mass to look 'bulky.'

If you feel that the eating plan is too restrictive, chances are you will not see results because you will not stick with it. I don't know what 'results' she says that you'll have if you follow her plan, but if you stick with a healthy diet and consistent exercise, you will see results in the long run.

What are your fitness goals? Do you want to lose weight? Build muscle? Lean out the muscle that you have? I don 't believe in the accessory muscles being used to pull in the skin so that you don't bulk. Why? Because not every woman has the genetics to bulk up. As far as her eating plan goes it would be too restrictive. You have to have carbs in your diet because they give you energy, but you should eat the good clean carbs like brown rice, whole grains, oatmeal, sweet potatoes, etc. Other carbs like white bread, pasta, rice, etc you can eat but eat in moderation. Proteins you should have with every meal. But not all diets work for everyone. It's mainly trail and error what diet may work for me may not work for you. I hope this helps.

Apparently Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow are fans of this method - I had a look at her videos and thought they were awful. Uninspiring and dull - and she never smiles! So, if you want to try it out, have a go, but her flat and unresponsive face and dullness couldnt make me go through the videos again. I personally find Jillian Michaels much, much better - the 30 Day Shred is fantastic and you really feel motivated when listening to her. As for results, she promises you'll drop upto 20lbs in 30 days - im on day 5 and already feeling the difference. Best of luck!

What may work for Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow may not work for you or someone else. If one thinks that this Tracy Anderson method is too restrictive then chances are that one would most likely will not take this method seriously nor stick to it. If one's goals is to lose weight then one has to have the discipline to burn more calories than one takes in. And the way that you do it is by eating good quality calories in what you eat. Not just eat whatever you want and think that you'll burn it off. Plus in losing weight one should never try to put a time line in which to lose weight because that would be unrealistic. The main goal one should focus in losing weight is feeling better and having more energy and come to the realization that diet and exercise is a lifestyle and not a chore. The looking better and getting back into a certain clothing size will all take care of itself only if one discipline's oneself to watch what one eats and exercise 30 to 60 minutes a day 3 times a week and eventually increase it to 4 to 5 times a week. And yes once a week have a cheat day but whatever you eat portion control is key.
