Help !! Something in my mind keeps telling me "You can't do it, you can't do it" ..
Hi everyone ..
i really am lucky & thankful to have found this forum .. i am really really desperate & in extreme need of ur help ..
Today .. i decided finally to run on the Treadmill ( after a great struggle inside me) ...
but after few minutes i stopped. . !! not because i was tired .. but because of that SOUND in my head that i can't do it ...& that i have no will power to do it ...
i totally lack self confidence & will power .. what do i do .. everything inside me tells me to stop even trying ..
i wanted to run so bad .. but whatever that thing in my head is literally killing me and destroyin any bit of confidence that i have left ..
i feel lost ..
Haha, man.. I know 110% of what you mean. I have that problem too, a lot actually.. I start running fine, but then I look at a distance the goal that I have set in my mind to run and It instantly says " It's too far, you can't do it", I usually just lose all motivation to run, It's horrible but there's no way around that I think, to be honest.. you gotta beat your innerself! Before, whenever I thought about that, I ran harder and harder until my sides started hurting, usually after 2 minutes, I put the treadmill as fast as possible then I stop..
Here is what I usually do.. I take an iPod and just listen to songs, eletronic with nice beat and just go with the flow, I cannot workout or anything without music, I just lose all motivation.. I will keep looking at this threat for some one else with a better answer, I'd love to hear something else that can help me as well.!!!
Good luck tho.
I completely understand!! I just started working with a personal trainer and almost passed out and had to quit!! But remember tomorrow is another day! Something that I have done that keeps me coming back is planning a trip for after I loose a bit of weight and have new outfits or a swim suit to look forward to. I know it wouldn't work for everyone but that is my secret to loosing weight and getting in shape, I have done it before and WILL do it again!!! Keep going!! Find your motivation!
that's what we call "hitting the wall". If you get a mental block, it can be due to a lack of nutrients, so just make sure that you drink plenty of water before you run and perhaps take a gel shot too.
...Get out and run in the street, a park, at night or in the evening or late morning, try something new. And honestly, not to be an asshole, but I don't totally believe this thing "I Really wanted to Run, but my mind says No", what the ****? That's the body that's Lazy, and you have to push over the laziness to see any results. If you really do enjoy the running, you WILL run.
Don't give in!
Instead set yourself smaller goals and go from there ! .... Step by step from week to week ... Don't try underestimate or overestimate yourself if you can find the right personal goals to suit your indiviual level of aerobic Fitness otherwise find a exercise professional to do it for you.
But everybody who gets running experiences this "Wall" where you can't go any further.
Don't let yourself down and stay at
All the best!
You must take care of your mind first! What you think and feel is what you put out in everything you do from exercise to deciding on lunch. Think of it like this, if, in your mind, you decide you want to reach out and grab a pencil, does your hand reach out and grab that pencil? Absolutely! So if you are thinking "you cant do it" your body must respond by not doing it, see? Now you must think positive as much as possible. If you find yourself slipping into doubt, thats your warning sign that you need to think of something positive about what you're doing or what it will do for you, right away and keep yourself there, enjoy it as if it already is happening. Take breaks when needed, breathe and refocus, then get back to it! Dont sweat it, you got this!!
free-spirit, how are you doing?? I hope you are trying to stick with it! I know you can do it, and I have some ideas that might help: changing up your routine or trying something new might help you. Also, do you have any friends who could go for a run with you? It is always motivating just to get out there with somebody else - then you can talk about other stuff and suddenly your will power no longer becomes an issue. Really all you have to do is put on your gear and show up to meet your friend, and then the rest is easy! Let me know how you're doing!

BEST program ever for the kind of mental talk you seem to be experiencing.
I empathize. However look towards other things when you run. I started off running by watching or listening to a sports game I like. I would actually run during the game times and just zone out in the game. Listening to music helps as well. You need to just keep running but zone out on something else to get your body going.
you just need to keep motivated, this will help you to achieve your goals! keep trying
Run and just Think of things, let your legs go, breathe and go... I donow about yall but it works for me.
