Eat things that are calorie dense, yet healthy: Nuts, natural peanut or almond butter, brown rice, oatmeal, dried fruit, and if you can find it without a bunch of crap in it..whole wheat bread

protein
After you are finished working out, do you eat protein? Lot of protein will help weight gain and build muscle. Also, try doing mild cardio exercising like bike riding or the eleptical instead of intense cardio.
Have a great day!

Gaining weight isn't just about working out everyday. It's about setting the stage for growth to occur. Working out is important, but loading up on calories, supplements and rest, these are all equaly important. If you are unable to incorporate all of these, then you may just be spinning your wheels.

I've been there before, and at first it's really hard. The important thing to remember is that you don't have a magical body or miracle metabolism; if you eat above maintenance then you will gain weight. To intake more than you use and not gain weight would defy the laws of physics.
Once you have accepted the fact that you can gain weight and it's in your control; the next thing to do is to try and find the level you are currently consuming and then systematically increase it.
I would imagine that if you started calorie counting and started off at eating about 2,750Kcals a day then after a couple of weeks you should have gained a lb or two. If not then increase your intake to 3,000, then 3,250 if still no gain and keep going until weight gets added.
At first it's hard (I used to throw up fairly regularly when I started aiming for 3,000 a day) but after a while your body adapts and higher consumption becomes natural.
And don't forget liquid calories. All calories count so there's nothing wrong with adding shakes to your diet, even the sugar enriched weight gainers, for people with real difficulty in adding calories when they first start out.

Don't spam the site with your crap products
EDIT - I'd just like to point out that there was a post from someone flogging their site that must have been deleted; I'm not going mental and posting responses to imaginary posts

if you get on a schedule to eat 5-6 meals a day, good amount of protein and workout regularly - I used to be the same way - 3 weight workouts and 3 cardio per week - took a while, but I did put on weight.

Gaining Muscle
Hi there MikeyMo,
If you are looking to gain muscle then a good resistance workout that incorporates ALL areas of the body is very important. This is because the body likes to grow in proportion. Why? To keep structural balance and avoid developing imbalances. So, by blasting your quads you are actually benefiting your pecs and arms as well...remember...the body is a very smart thing it will throw on the brakes if it feels you are doing something that will cause imbalance and possible injury.
Also I would have a close look at your diet. What are you eating? You need to get enough calories, protein and vitamins and minerals to get muscle gain...protein alone won't do it...
Do you have any intolerances like dairy or wheat? If you do it will be impeding your development. I know this because for years I found it hard to gain muscle until i found out I had an intolerance to dairy products.
But to sum up if your workout routine is well balanced and you make steady and constant improvement then the rest comes down to diet. Like i said, its not protein alone that builds muscle...
Hope I have been some help...

In addition to the tips above, add a couple of spoons with fat to each meal. This way you can easily add another 1000-1500 kcal each day. That's gotta help.

Prediction - OP is going to post saying that he already eats a lot and cannot possibly eat any more.
Trust me, you're not eating enough. No seriously, you're not. Off the top of my head, judging by your height, weight, and activity level, you should probably be eating upwards of 3,000 calories a day. Plus, you'll need to divide that between a proper ratio of protein/carbs/fat.
What I think Maclago was trying to say was that many people cut fat from their diet, thinking it will cause them to store fat, while fats are an essential part of a proper diet and in the proper amounts, will help to build muscle. In other words, protein alone doesn't build muscle, you need a balanced diet. If you're not getting enough fat, a quick fix is to add fat to each meal, like olive oil. I also read somewhere that by drinking shots of olive oil throughout the day, you can add 1,000 calories to your diet. I'm not sure if that's the best thing to do as it's not that you need just more calories, you need more of everything: carbs, fat, and protein.
Now, on to your routine. Working out every day is not good strategy for building muscle. Your body will build muscle as a repair function, while you are resting. Therefore, if you're not resting enough, your body won't build muscle. A 3 day a week FBW is more than adequate. Also, cardio exercise is going to burn calories, which is going to work against building muscle.

I was interested to read the suggestions made to you. They focus a lot on diet which is all fine, but unless I missed it somewhere, no one asked you what exactly you are doing now?
You say you are working out. What does this mean? Are you working through a progressive program, training to failure or close to failure? Are you varying the exercises that you run through? How often do you train each body part, how many reps, how many sets etc etc.
I think this is at least as important as whether you are taking in a bit of fat!
Anyway, PM if you'd like a further chat about what you are looking to achieve and what you have done so far.
Cheers
Steve

Hey there
Make sure you are not doing weight training on the same muscles everyday, muscles needs 48 hours rest. How is your diet like? You should keep a food diary and also take a protein supplement.
