Questions about hiring a personal trainer.

Hey all,

Ive only recently started weight training, around 5 weeks to be precise. I have tried to develop my own weight training program to help me to gain overall body mass and muscle. I also want to try and tone up because I currently have a beer belly starting to form.

I was thinking of hiring a personal trainer just to set up a training program for me and also a diet for me so it will help me acheive my aims. However I have limited funds due to being at college and only earning £50 a week.

Anyway my questions to you all are:

Can I get a personal trainer to come to my gym at home and set up a training program for me?

Also would they be able to set a diet for me based upon my personal goals?

Finally what sort of price would I be looking to pay for this?

I live in the UK, birmingham area incase that has affect upon the price

I look forward to speaking to you all on these forums much more often in the near future.
Thanks in advance
Royst

Hey Royst,

First, you probably shouldn't hire a trainer to handle nutrition. Unless, he/she is certified to do so..... and if he does have the cert. he's probably pretty expensive. If I were you, I would use my limited funds to get a decent book on training. I like strength coaches like Poliquin, Ian King, Gray Cook, Chad Waterbury, ....most these guys have stuff posted on www.t-nation.com. A little research will go a long way.

If you still need a trainer, read up on "periodization" and "weight training"..... then grab one of those trainer types for a simple consultation....and blast them with questions on training and make sure you get an assessment. Probably will cost you 2 sessions.

Goodluck

Ty is right.

Personal trainers are not certified to set you up on a nutrition program. If they have additional certs that allow them to do it, they are probably very expensive.

Do your research, then see about a few sessions with a trainer to iron out the details on form, exercises, etc. You should be able to find a trainer who will come to your house and help get you started with what you have to work with.
