| | | It is possible to get taller!!
now what im talking about is purely rational and have read it from books and i dont thinks age could be any barrier
the spine discs in between your vertrebrae are made of water absorbing material and protect your vertrebrae from rubbing against each other
often these spine discs get compressed due to pressure on the spine etc; thereby reducing the water content of the discs
stretching the spine stretches these discs which acts like sponge and absorb the water thus lengthening the spine and overall body height
typically athletes see height increases upto inches during such training
hope the explanation was understandable
what you can do perform this exercise which very well stretches the spine
bend forwards and try to touch your fingers to your toes
start slowly untill you master the exercise

| | | finally an answer that isn't irrelevent.
I already do the touch toe touch exercise and can touch the floor with the palms of my hands, but I'll try some pull ups.
I know I'm still growing a little bit without special exercise because when I had my last physical, which was last month I was 5" 11½", meaning if I kept growing a ½ an inch a month, which I be 6" 1½' taller by July. I doubt that I would continue to gain ½ an inch a month though. |

| | | if you're only 16 you've still got between 3 and 5 years of growing to do!!
The stretching exercises are good for your back anyway, i do them to counteract being sat in a chair all day long and they do make you feel better. i was showed them by a posture expert who said you would stretch out an inch at most - but remember this is not growth you're just repositioning your vertebrae back to some sort of normality. head to toe you will still be the same 'length', you will just have a better upright posture and therefore seem taller.
as with most things your genes will determine your height. id love to be over 6 foot but it just wont happen as your cant make your bones grow.
also, the answers were not at all irrelevant. you phrasing made it sound a daft question but if you dont ask, you dont know. drinking milk does not make bones grow as protein does muscle; but it all doesnt matter as you have time to grow so dont worry about something you cant change.

| Yeah you stop growing when you're 23 years old but between 16 and 23 you'd be lucky to get much more than an extra inch in height. |

another exercise is the pull ups; not sure it stretches the spine though, but is does contribute to good height increases
| Seriously... are you on drugs or just all around uninformed? This kind of crap response is what worries me about this forum.
Go with Benelson's comments. The only thing that will determine your height is your genes. If your parents are tall, there is a good chance that you will be too. |

| | you guys are all missing the obvious answer:
hang upside down by your knees from a jungle gym. Didn't any of you watch the Brady Bunch?
(PS-I saw an interview with Michael Jordan and he said he tried it. The interviewer asked "did it work?" Michael's answer was "I don't know, but I'm tall.") |

Maybe i was uninformed and irresponsible to not study it prior to posting
but id like to say that exercise does influence growth and inturn contributes to height increases ofcourse subject to your genes
i have been doing pull ups since two months and have seen upto 4 inches of increase in my height
maybe i my mind was prejudiced by my sucess
i am hereby editing my previous post

| | | Sorry guys I left one detail out earlier...
Last 1-2 months ago i was 5" 11½' during my last physical. Right now stretching in the past couple days moved me up to 6" 1/8'.
I've read stretching and a good diet helps so that the cartiledge in your backbone becomes a little thicker and thus can help by increasing your height by 1-2 inches at max.
Heres some family history
My father is 5" 10' but is really spose to be 6" 2' because hes worked hard his whole life thus he got arthritis.
My mother is 5" 8'
My Older Sister is 5" 4'
My twin Sister is like 5" 6' I think
My mothers brother is 6" 1'
My fathers brother is 5" 8' I think
My great grand mother who has passed recently (she was my fathers grandmother and my fathers mother) was 5" 10.5" I think
I don't know my grand parients height.
Also my grand mother has another daughter who had a son who has 2 boys that are 6" 1" a daughter who is 5" 9' I think, and another son who is 23 years old and is 6" 8' and still growing. The mother to all these children is about 5" 9.5' .
I know there are some loops holes in this so it might be hard to figure out without the data of my grand parents. |

| | | First off, something that irked me - ' means foot, " means inch. You seems to have it the other way around.
Why do you want to be taller? For basketball or what? I think 6' is a good height and you should'nt stress out about it. I'm not really sure if anyone here can guess how tall you will be by your family history (not accurately anyway). I mean, I'm around 5' 10" - 5' 11" and my mother is barely 5'. She's a short one.
James Bond is 6' tall, are you trying to tell me you don't like James Bond? Tsk tsk. |
