What am I doing wrong and right

I have been working out for the last 5 months I started off weighing about 285 bench pressing about
350. I have since then lost about 40 pounds and still losing but my bench has dropped to about 280.
I have lose a few pants sizes so I am sure I am losing some fat but it seems to me that im losing to much muscle. A friend told me to first just concentrate on losing the fat then start putting muscle back on later. I currently run between 1 to 2
hours a day 7 days a week and lift 3 days a week.
I eat about 2000 calories total a day. I would like to know am I helping or hurting myself and also any advice you could give me.

I would like to agree with your friend's advise because it is quite hard to loose wait. Muscles problem can be solved later after reducing weight. This makes sense

Actually, this is not right.

When you lose muscle, your overall metabolic rate drops (how much energy u burn while resting). Also, muscle is the active tissue in your body, which means, it is the muscle that burns the fat...

Now, in order to lose weight primarily made up of body fat (hard to do), you need to at least keep your muscles away from shrinking, which you do by strength training. You also do cardio at a certain pace that is to be determined based on your age, fitness level, resting heart rate, etc... Can't say more on this off the top of my head.

Overall though, your routine should be fine, although you shouldn't be running 2 hrs/day 7 days/week... I'd do this 4-7 times/week up to 1 hour. More running doesn't necessarily mean more fat burn --- you can overtrain as well.

Cheers!
