| | | Anyone running 1/2 or full marathons this spring? I'm planning on running my first 1/2 marathon this May. I'm relatively new to running and started the 12-week training program a few weeks ago.
Just wondering if there's anyone planning on running any long distance races this season?
Eric

| | | I just attempted my first half of the season but got sick for it (last weekend). I'm in a constant state of training for longer runs. I'm planning another half in May also. Best of luck in your training! |

| | | Hello Muggs,
I am planning on running my first marathon in June. I started a training program in December. Prior to the training program I had been running about 20 miles a week for 7 months. Thus far my longest run has been a 12 mile training run.
Good luck on your half marathon! |

| | Thanks guys. I've actually been on a 12-week training program for a few weeks now. Unfortunately, my right knee has really been acting up the past few runs.
It's something I hurt last summer while getting into a pool while intoxicated. It takes a few miles before the pain starts, then it goes away almost immediately after I stop running.
I'm going to skip my run tonight and just give it some rest for my 6 mile run this Saturday. I really hope this isn't an ungoing issue that prevents me from running. That would really suck. |

| | | I ran a half last August, and I will run the same one again this August. My only other previous half was about ten years ago when I was in college. I ran a 1:51 then but my run last year was a lot worse, about 2:23. But I wasn't concerned about time last year, just finishing. And I really didn't do a very good job of all getting myself in shape for the one last August. This year, I will, and hopefully I'll finish in under 2:10 if not under 2 hours.
My recommendation is to make sure you routinely run at least 10 miles while getting yourself ready for the half. Obviously, make sure you're happy with the shoes you're going to wear. And when you do run it, don't kill yourself trying to get a good time. Your body may give you the green light to do really well. If not, just hang back a bit and don't sweat it if your time isn't so great. Finishing your first half will be an accomplishment in itself. |

| | | I'm also having knee issues (ligaments in the side of my knee actually), but I'm a new runner and hoping it's just growing pains. If I can get on track I want to do a marathon this year |

| | | My left knee has been bothering me for about a month and a half now, just below the knee cap. If I can put up with it I don't worry about it. It hasn't really gotten any worse or any better in the last 6 weeks. Mine is sore even when not running. I get several aches and pains from running, most go away after a few weeks. |

| | | I would like to do a 1/2 in the latter half of the year. The farthest I have done to date is 7 miles. |

It's on the backside of my knee, just about in the middle of the joint. It hurt so bad I had to slow down and walk a few times. But I managed to make it though the full 6 miles but it hurt like heck as soon as I stopped.
I'm going to buy a brace tonight after work, and then try soaking in an ice bath a few times a week to see if that helps heal it. If not, I'm starting to think surgery might be needed...getting old I guess. I used to recover from just about everything that ailed me. |

| | | I'm running a 1/2 with a couple of friends in mid-April (Whidbey Island). Lots of hills in this event, so the training has been brutal. My longest run so far has been 10 miles. I've run the Seattle 1/2 and full marathon, but the course was relatively flat. I expect my time to be a bit slower for this one - but the views will be spectacular! |

| | | I am running my first half marathon in June. The Mayor's Marathon in Anchorage. I was up to 30-40 miles per week (four 8 to 10-mile runs per week). After fall, during the holidays, my runs dropped drastically. As of about 1 month ago I am up to 25 miles per week. Doing mostly 6 to 8 mile runs. I am hoping I will be ready in June. I am not a fast runner, so I have been working sprints and hills into the runs. Which is probably why I am not back at my 40 miles. Good luck on your marathon. Post any tips or training styles you've been using. Always helpful the hear how others train. |

| | That is so great...it says you're in Ohio...so does that mean you're doing the Flying Pig or Cleveland? :-) Good luck with it! Enjoy the experience! I'm doing a half in April and doing my second full marathon in May (the Cleveland).
Someday I'm going to learn to workout and run without training for a distance race. | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
