    Cardio and Low Blood Pressure?

I had my blood pressure tested today and it came out as 110/55 with a rested Heart Rate of 58. The doc said that this was pretty low. They asked if I were very physically active and I mentioned that I had been doing a lot of cardio for the past couple of months. They mentioned that this may be the reason for it and that I shouldn't worry.

Is this normal in people who undertake high levels of cardio? I have noticed that my rested heart rate has come down significantly since joining the gym. Are there any potential problems of low Blood Pressure? I meant to ask but didn't get the chance, but 55 for Diastolic Blood Pressure seems pretty low (it should be between 65 - 80). Saying that my health seems fine and I'm not having any problems at the moment.

Sounds like your getting healthier, I don't think you have anything to worry about. I have a resting heart rate of around 49/50 and there some members here who are in the low 40's

The diastolic pressure (the lower number of your blood pressure) and resting heart rate will go down as you become more fit and your heart becomes more supple and slightly larger. That is normal.

Unless you have some bizarre underlying cardiovascular issue, I wouldn't worry about it.

My BP is between 106/60 and 110/65, and my resting pulse is between 58-64. That's normal for me. And I'm the farthest thing from being a cardio/endurance athlete.

If you look at the resting pulse rates and BPs of triathletes, some of them are REALLY low. But they're very healthy people.

Here's a pretty decent BP chart: Blood Pressure Chart - Normal Blood Pressure Range

Thanks guys. The chart is useful, and although it shows a Systolic reading of 110 to be in the 'excellent' category, a Diastolic reading of 55 is under the 'too low' category - even below what it should be for Children and Athletes! Anyhow, I'm not going to worry, not until I start getting symptoms such as dizzyness and weakness etc. Until then I'll put it down to me getting into great shape

Yeah, those charts are, at best, a "guideline".

I don't pay much attention to charts because according to the BMI chart, I should be dead. Personally, I believe "averages" and "norms" are formulated for the average person. As we all know, the average person doesn't take very good care of themselves.
