Ergometer Training for Rowing

I know this is a running & cycling section but I didn't know where else to put this.

Rowing season has just ended and now I've got 10 months to train on the erg for next season. I really want to make varsity and it's required to erg a 6km and a 2km as fast as i can. I used to be able to pull 3km erg within 13minutes (which is still BAD), but now that I've tried to combine ERG and weight training, Ive noticed my progress has just declined. I'll burn out within a 1km. I really need some tips and advice on how I can improve. Does anybody have any specific workout plans for a rower? Thanks.

I have tapped this website before and it has other sport specific training, rowing included. I followed the rowing link and there are tons of resources at the bottom of the page. Maybe one or two of them can help with what you're looking for.

what is your routine now? daily or weekly? If you're doing a lot all at once, you will not give your body proper time to recover, and this is what may be leading to your over-training (a bad thing). i'll wait for your response before I give my advice, because I want to make sure if my assumption is correct.

i workout everyday. i row in the mornings then i give my body at a 12 hour rest then i hit the weights. I usually do chest/triceps one day, back/biceps another day, and legs and abs the other day.

You may also want to check out the Concept 2 ' UK ' web-site to add to your list of rowing resources.

I have a Concept 2 at home and have found the UK site to have a very robust ' Training ' section ( better than the U.S. site IMO )

For example, check out their " 2,000 metre Interactive Training Programme " under their ' Training ' section...you can actually formulate a program ( as long as 26 weeks ) to help meet some of your ' off-season ' goals. I used some of the their training info to help trim down my 2,000 m time quite a bit. It's a great site IMO.
