Rep Power: 0 | | | New to the forum.. and running! Hello everyone. I am new to the forum, i've been reading for a day or so all the wonderful information on here. I am looking into starting to do some jogging/running. Due to a medical condition I have had little to no exercise most of my life. I work behind a computer all day and don't get to the gym as often as I would like. Lately its down to about once a week, standard issues with work/time etc. Useless.
Bottom line: I would like to start running. That is something I can do right out side my apartment, no 30 minute drive to the gym.
Problem: Little to no stamina. I can hardly run a block without being low on breath.
How would one begin this adventure? I am thinking some brisk walks and/or jogging. I am also going to look into shoes as well for this, thanks to some other threads, i have most of the info i will need on those. Any general advice would be great. I appreciate the time anytime takes to read and/or respond to this. I will continue reading through others stories and advice I can find here also. |

Rep Power: 12 | | | I started running more this spring and I started out like you, I couldn't run more than a min at a time. I would suggest run a block then walk a block then run one again and so on. Add on to your running distance each day you run and you will improve in no time! A lot of people on here suggest resting a day inbetween runs or doing a different type of exercise like biking or lifting so you don't work the same muscles 2 days in a row. Good luck!

Rep Power: 286 | | You're on the right track. I recommend The Couch-to-5k Running Plan. You can adjust it as necessary, but it should provide a little structure. Be sure to read up on form, stretching, and shoes. But don't be intimidated or anything.
Happy trails.

Don't try to be rude or anything like that but you don't give us any info on your condition and it could be vital. |

Rep Power: 0 | | I am receiving a treatment that basically removes all the symptoms of my "issues". The condition used to cause lots of discomfort (pain, but not from injury) in my hands and feet with almost any activities. The only issue left is my lack of ability to sweat much at all. I will be taking this step by step for sure I am most definitely able to exercise now. |

Rep Power: 5 | | | cool then, if your doctor says you're good to go then follow this:
week 1, 3 days
3 min jogging (140-150 bpm), 2 min walking for a total jogging time of 15 minutes (25 min total)
week 2, 3 days
4 min jogging 2 min walking for a total jogging time of 20 minutes, same bpm
week 3, 3 days
4 min jogging 1 min walking for a total jogging time of 28 minutes, same bpm
week 4, 2 days
6 min jogging, 2 min walking for a total jogging time of 30 minutes, same bpm
week 4, 3rd day
10 min jogging, 3 min walking for a total jogging time of 30 minutes, 140-160 bpm |

Take care mate
