Running to lose weight. PAIN, & Cellulite!

Hey all! When I was young I always ran with my mom and dad. It became a family thing. Well, years have gone by and I am still running (on and off that is). Since January, I had started running one mile about every so often and now I have been running 3 miles straight for the last 4 days...which I'm very proud of. Problem is ...I've been getting a great deal of pain in my right knee and terrible shin splints sometimes. I don't know if I'm running wrong or what. I've NEVER had this problem until recently.

Also, I really want to lose about 10 lbs. I am 5'5 @ 130 lbs. I would like to get down to 120. Is running 3 miles about 4 to 5 days a week a good option in losing weight... and is it really bad for my joints? I always try to run through the pain but I'm scared in the long run it will ruin my knees or something. And PLEASE don't tell me to use an elliptical machine because its better on knees because I absolutely hate those machines and think they are a waste of time...I put up the resistence and I still don't think they do ANYTHING!

One more thing... they say cellulite is basically in your genes. I'm a pretty fit person....and I've worked out almost all my life... Will it ever go away!? It really makes me feel ugly and out of shape because I feel like everyone stares at it!!

Please help with any kind of comments! I thank you in advance!

Here is my webpage so you can see what I look like. I'm not advertising..I promise!! Just trying to give you something to look at so you can help me!

You might want to try HIIT (high intensity interval training) type running. You alternate sprinting approximately 100 yards with 2-3 minutes of walking or slow jogging. 6-8 sprintds is all thats needed. That provides the maximum fat buring exercise in the smallest amount of time with the least amount of wear and tear on your joints.

Short & sweet answer: Weight training combined with the running. As far as hurting your knees, just don't overdo it and try and run 20+ miles in your first week back. Start slow and easy.

And obviously dietary habits will be a factor in weight loss.

No weight training whatsoever? What EXACTLY do you do each week?

Post something like this.

Monday - Weights. Bench Press, Squats, 2 sets of 10 reps.

Tuesday - Run 3 miles

Wed-Sun - off, nothing.
