| | | Running marathon in "flats" Running a half marathon October 11th. Some people have told me that they feel running that kind of distance is better done with "flats" rather than a typical running shoe. I've always worn Asics and have never had a problem. I have a neutral foot so what is the opinion of all you runners regarding flats for a half or full marathon? Are there any better benefits? I'd like to complete the half in under 90 minutes and was told I could shave 10 seconds off my time wearing flats. HMMM, what do you guys think? |

| | | Go with used and tested, don't try to use something you've never used cause you risk injury |

I wouldn't. As was stated, go with what works. That said, you have a neutral foot so if you're going to disregard the advice, you're probably one of the few that could get away with it since most people have shoes that correct mechnical issues. You do not. |

| | | I appreciate your responses and I am comfortable enough wearing my reg. running shoes. No, its not worth possilbly aquiring an injury over. However, (not that I'm disregarding good advice) I did purchase a pair to run short distances in just to see how they felt on my feet but come race day I've decided to stick with the Asics. Thanks guys |

| | | NO WAY HOSAY!!!
Flats are for sprints and up to a 440, maybe a 1 miler. After that the the benefit in weight is lost at the risk of injury.
ESPECIALLY if you are a heel to toe runner.
Simple answer- BAD IDEA.
that's my .02
p.s.
when you are running with them, since I just noticed you got them,, please pay close attention to your "ground pound." and the hip extends just a tad further too. These shoes are for high schoolers, and collegiates, and peeps who have continued running since then- they really are. |
