Sore calf muscles

So, I thought I'd finally seek some advice on this.

I try to run about 2-3 miles every day. When I finish, my calf muscles are incredibly sore and stay that way for a couple of hours. I can feel the soreness pretty much immediately as I start to run. I'm 20 years old and thin, so I don't think I should be experiencing this kind of thing.

Any advice?

I've got the same thing! The only thing that really helped was trying to focus on pulling my legs back and make forward movement with that and not relying a lot on extending the ankle and kicking off with the foot. That helped a lot as my running technique was very calf dominant instead of glute and ham dominant.

How long have you been running for? Are you an experienced runner who has been running 2-3 miles at a time for a long time?

When I first ran track back in high school, my legs burned like crazy. It wasn't until I had been running for a while that the burning feeling went away. I rarely feel any pain in my legs now during or after running, but if I run much further than normal, like when I ran a half-marathon last year, my legs were really sore after that. Also, my quads will sometimes burn a bit after running sprints these days, since being a distance runner I don't have particularly strong quads and sprints are therefore a good workout for me.

If you've been running 2-3 miles a long time, hmm, I'm not sure what to tell you.

There is two things that jump out in my mind. One is that your technique of running puts more of a workout on your calf muscles. The second thing is that if you recently started running that your calf muscles are not yet used to/adapted/build up to the run that you are subjecting them too. When I run it is not everyday, probably 4-5 times a week, and it a little under 4 miles, and in the begining of the run I always start to feel it in my lower calf muscles, then it goes away after a couple hundred yards. Which might be because in the begining of my run I am taking a very slow jog to warm up so it is like basically a quick walking speed, but with the bounce of it being jogging, so it probably puts more work into my calf muscles.
