Training for a half marathon Ok so this year my goal is to run a half marathon, I'm working with my trainer to get there so thats covered but I was just wondering if anyone else is aiming to run a half marathon sometime this year and what they're stats are like?
At the moment I'm starting out with 10km runs (sorry don't know it in miles) but I have been averaging about 56 minutes with this which I'm pretty proud of especially considering I'm just starting out with distance running! -
No marathon for me, but I am running in a "All-Terrain" event in May. Been training hard for it....2 of the members of the team are ex- Navy SEALs -
I ran a trial 1/2 mary last weekend and got 2:02:41, 8th place in my age group, and 53rd place oeverall.
Running Gasparilla next weekend, and plan to run it in less that 1:50- I have alot riding on that race.
There is a 6-7 week 1/2 mary training plan I wrote for a newbie in the running section.
Welcome to distance running, and this forum if you are new.
Runnign is not my forte, but there are a few of us that have some mileage experience we can share.

Hi Welcome!
Great goal you have going! I'm slated for a half marathon March 1 and another probably around October after triathlon season. I've done 2 in my lifetime and they're a lot of fun!
My first time out my goal was just to make it under 2 hours. I did that and then knocked off 6 minutes for my second. A well-formed training plan is a must. They can be brutal without one. Welcome to running! -
Just ran my first 1/2 marathon last Sunday (January 27, 2008)(training for the Full on 2/17). My goal was under 2:00 and I ran it in 1:59:07!
Woo-hoo 53 seconds to spare!
A 10k is 6.2 miles so you'll have to go twice that far, but a 56 minute 10k is a good time - in line with a 2:00 1/2 marathon. -

CONGRAQTZ TO THE MAX RED!!!! totally great time!! way to go. -
10K in 56 minutes is 9:00 minute mile splits. Very impressive for a new runner.
The farthest I run is 7 miles (a little over 10K), on occasion, but want to do a 1/2 marathon in the latter half of this year. -
I have just signed up for my first half marathon which will be in feburary. I have also signed up for a 10K run next month and have been running consistantly for the last 3.5 months. My best 10K time is so far is 47:38. On my LSD run this morning I ran 13.5 miles in 2:10:45. I am looking for a sub 1:50:00 time come feburary. -

This time next week if all goes to plan I would have run my first half marathon race! -

I'm doing the Blackmores run which is a nice one across the harbour bridge! I have done 22.5km running twice now and it felt amazing the first time but the second time my ITB started playing up and I put it down to the fact I stopped doing yoga and got a bit lazy with my stretching but now I'm working on tapering and stretching and it's feeling pretty damn good! -
I look forward to the race report. -
me too.. Can't wait to hear all about it. It is a great accomplishment to finish the half!
