Cool Underestimated excercise

Hi people

I have been looking through this forum and I have noticed that nobody has mentioned about an excercise that is very effective both for weight loss and strengthening the body. Jumping rope is one of the best excercises to succeed excellent results, is doesn't take much time and is fun too.
Jump rope for 10 minutes a day with a 20 second break between minutes and you will see results in no time. I lost 24 kgrs that way.

There are proponents of jump roping on this forum and I agree that it is a great exercise but I disagree that it is fun. JMHO.

I love jumping rope. I do not do it enough but I can tell you after 30 seconds you already can feel like you ran around the block! Not only is my heart rate up but my legs feel the burn too. It is great for when I am in the mood for circuits

I definitely jump rope... I just had to do it at tennis practice today

I wonder how effective it really is, though. When I'm jumping, I pretty much just use my calves (at least it feels like it) and the rest of my body barely moves. It'd definitely our easiest conditioning activity.

*High Five*

One of the most underrated, effective conditioning tools there is. I personally think that the reason it is so underused is because it takes a bit of time before you are adept enough on it to actually include it in your training arsenal. Learning to jump the rope is well worth the initial investment in time. I'm lucky that my sport required me to spend hrs jumping rope, I doubt that I would of ever invested the time required to learn otherwise.

Here is the god of jump rope. Imagine being able to skip as fast as that, imagine the benefits such skill could add to your conditoning...

It's as effective as you make it.

I've recently been lended/stolen a rope from the gym but am yet to get into it. For me it seems repetitive and I don't think I'd recieve the same high I get when I run but this thread has inspired me, hopefully I'll be back soon with good news!

What does jump roping prepare you for? (other than endurance)

It's good for footwork in general. We jump rope a lot at tennis, and I know that other sports do the same.
