Cool

Ahem - it's soccer for us Canadians as well! (And soccer isn't as big here, because of HOCKEY!)

yeah American football if funny it's basically rugby with padding and a helmet to make it easier (wouldn't want to break a nail :P) and breaks so you don't get too tired, lol.

I don't mean to rubbish someone's favorite sport but it's just funny to me.

Look at the fat ass linemen! Does it look like they can run as far as a little skinny rugby or soccer player? Plus everyone is huge and built in football. Every play theyre sprinting. Even with a rest its like your sprinting through the whole game.

If you're gonna make fun of football, let's talk about the lack of athleticism in baseball :P They don't even play in the rain!

Hey, here in San Jose we have the Earthquakes, and I LOVE to catch 'Quakes games. Well, being Portuguese, I guess it's a little different...

The american football players are really huge, but most of them are using steroids. The NFL lacks regular testing and the punishment is laughable. Three matches suspension!

Kinda looks like the US government is stepping in to get steroids out of the NFL. I don't know if they test players here in the Canadian Football League at all, at least I have never heard of a suspension or anything and the players are still mostly americans that couldn't make the NFL so theres definitely more involved than steroids.

I played rugby and football in school, there really is no comparison to how hard you get hit in football. Coming from scrimmage you have big guys hitting you at full speed. The flow of the game in rugby lessens the ability to really line somebody up for a hit and the scrum starts with both sides already touching each other so more of a push than a hit, you do get stepped on a lot more though. The backs in rugby lateral it off a lot so it's difficult to line them up open field since they are moving the whole time they have the ball and while they are waiting to get it compared to football where the receivers have to wait for a forward pass to come to them and are sitting ducks when they catch it. Football shoulder pads are also as much an offensive weapon as for your protection if you line up the hard plastic into somebody's abdomen they are gonna feel that for days.

From watching on TV versus playing though it is really difficult to get a feel for how fast things go on the field by watching on TV. I think that is part of soccers problem in North America, it's not played all that often so it looks very slow paced compared to when you actually play and realise how much athleticism is involved.

The way I see it, football cannot hope to match the skill required to play soccer.

Therefore, some GENIUS, knowing humans and what they like, decided lets make a bunch of guys hit each other for their entertainment. Behold, millions of people in North America LOVE football.

Here's what I wanna know, this thread sounds like a bunch of non - americans bashing an american sport. Do you hear any Americans here telling you that cricket sucks? Or that Aussie rules football sucks? You wanna compare soccer and football? They're different sports!

If you can sit there and say that football players are pansies because they wear pads, you've never seen a hit that a wide out can take from a middle linebacker after taking a shot over the middle while being extended trying to catch a pass, or a quarterback get blindsided by a blitzing outside linebacker or a defensive end who broke loose. Allow forward passing in rugby and see if they don't get hurt. I'm not saying rugby isn't tough. I like rugby.

As far as baseball goes, I'd like to see you guys who bash it hit a Randy Johnson, Roger Clemens, Or a Roy Oswalt fastball, you think you could catch up to it? It traveles 66 feet in less than a second. Of course they don't play in the rain. Do you want somoene hurling a ball over 90 miles an hour at you when the ball is slick? A fastball to the head can equal death. You wanna see the what a Randy Johnson fastball can do? See if you can find a clip of when Johnson threw his fastball and it hit a bird on its way to the plate.

You guys don't get to see the everyday stuff in football. I'm almost positive none of you got to see the way Joe Theismann's leg was broken, or when Dennis Byrd broke his neck while trying to sack a quarterback.

If the sport is different, don't bash it because it is. I've never played soccer (competitively) or cricket, but I don't go around saying they suck.

each sport has its own skills involved so i don't think it fair to knock any of them . the players all train hard to give you all the entertainment you so desire. you nned to try the sport to appreciate the skills it utilzes, just like everything esle in life. if you don't understand it, don't knock it until you try it. i'm not a big fan of sports, its not my thing, but i would never bash the sport. if you don't like it don't watch it, plain and simple!
