Ice Skateing

I haven't been on skates for about 10 years. After a few years of lazyness and not skateing, I became too self consciouse to get back on the ice. This year I made a vow to get on the ice. Depending how comfortable i get, i want to maybe join a beer hockey leaque.

I know it's still a few months away before winter, but I was wondaring if anybody would have any advice on excersizes that'll help me build up some strength for my ankles. So i don't end up an ankle burner.

I'm thinking. I dont know about that. I think that you'll need to roller skate every other day to get your legs back into the motion of skating.

But i know a few:
-calve raises
-no idea what it's called but you put a weight on the top of your foot, then you raise the ball of your foot off the ground with your heel planted. It works the muscle on the other side of your leg from your calve. My friend does it for soccer. I think she hurt he ankle, that's why.
-ankle rotations - just to make sure your ankles are flexible

as long as your skates fit properly and are laced correctly, it should give you enough ankle support to get you out on the ice and start skating again..

Unless you're planning on jumping and pirouetting your heart out - if that's the case - please don't wear glittery spandex

I haven't ice skated for years - butwhen I had pond access - it didn't take long to get used to it -- it was only a problem if my skates were too tight or too loose.

I don't know about exercises, but that ankle burn you're talking about will usually go away after your first session of returning to the ice. I don't think it's a case of having to build extra strength in those muscles, just that they are muscles you don't use in everyday life and so are very rarely worked.

I live in Ontario, Canada where ice skating is very popular. I myself have played hockey since the young age of four and think it to be the greatest sport on earth. I would suggest rollerblading to get back into the swing of things.
