Rugby

Ok, so I signed up for Rugby. IT's a spring sport. Meaning my year will go...

Fall - Powerlifting
Winter - Powerlifting / Wrestling
Spring - Powerlifting / Rugby / Track (hopefully..I hope my throwing coach will let me still do T+F)

What do you guys think about Rugby? Do you think that I should be doing a sport like Rugby while doing Powerlifting? The powerlifting meets are in the spring, so me powerlifting during wretling isn't really a problem. I just don't know if I should do it because I don't want it to effect my numbers too much.

If i may....Rugby is one of the worst mainstream sports in the world...Right behind Baseball and american football. Does not appeal to me at all and this is coming from someone who is 100% Australian!

What position would you be playing? The physical demands are very different depending on position.

And Streamline - Can't you be executed for blasphemy in Australia because of what you just said?

If there'd been more hot lesbo action and fewer studs rammed in my face by 30 stone props I might have stuck with the game longer

Well, I'm gonna do it no matter what. The good thing is, it is a "club" because not many schools in the area have Rugby as a sport. So I think not only is it going to be intermural, but also ellective as well. I think you can just show up when you please to? So if theres some days I wanna train rather than play rugby, I will. Because in the end, Powerlifting will be first for me, no matter what. I care more about my state and new england championships than a game of rugby =]

The funny thing about it, we have about 1,000 guys (yes, all guys school -_-) at my school. The same day it was posted up there, there were over 100 signatures. So 1/10th of the school wants to play lol. Thats prob 4th most behind Football, XC, and Track.

I don't really know much about Rugby, I just have a feeling its a hardcore sport where theres no armor, just basically a beatdown of the other team lol. I hope it doesn't turn out sucking =\

Yeah it looks great! But one thing I really wouldn't like about - tons of injuries! It really is too much of a contact sport to be played safely without protective gear imo.

And damn, those guys need to learn some proper fall technique! Trying to stop the fall with the elbow like most of them do is a very effective way to dislocate or break something.

At a risk of sounding arrogant I dont think anyone can get a true Idea of what rugby is really like until they come to somewhere like New Zealand or Australia where Rugby is part of everyday life. To the extent where people spend every week night at the rugby club.

Its probably like baseball or football is in the US

Yeah. Except baseball. You see pickup games of football all over the place where I live.

After practice Monday-Thursday. I have a game Friday. then on Saturday I play more football when I finnally get a break...

Yeah baseball is pretty much like that, especially here (BOSTON!! YEAH!) We're known for our dedication, we have sold out every game since the beginning of 2003.

Football, we're just as beastly. The New England Patriots...it's crazy up here with sports. Like you said jman, you see football everywhere. I play pickup games with friends at least 2 weekends a month just about. We don't do pickup baseball, we do pickup wiffleball all the time too.
