YIKES! Did you guys see that a shark attacked a swimmer in Solana Beach (San Diego) and he got his legs basically bit off and died? CNN Story
This is certainly tragic for the victim, who I believe was a retired veterinarian - Ironic, isn't it that he spent his life helping animals? This appears like a classic case of mistaken identity, which most shark bites are. There are a lot of Califonria Sea Lions in California (although I don't know if they are found in San Diego) and they are a favorite target of great whites.
But, to keep this in perspective: 5 people / year die from shark bites in the US while 15,000+ people die from a drunk driver.
I have seen a few small sharks out surfing and a caught a few fishing. I feel sharks get a bad wrap sometimes. They are just doing what comes naturally to them really
