    food and pimples

Does protien play a big role in how bad your pimples are because my pimples have gotten so bad it actually hurts to move my forehead dad thinks i should cut down on the protien shakes and i have been since i realized i cant keep drinking it at the rate i was without money problems. I have 1-3 a day and 2 meals with normal food source proteins. Is there any foods or hints to what makes pimples so bad because i have practically gone from 1 or 2 every day 2 my face is ****ing covered in them in like 4 weeks....sucks so much to

Don't really know about the food, but have you got any of those cremes? I know a few friends who had acne when they were teens, once they started using those popular anti-acne cremes, and their pimples cleared up over time. Should also wash your face with soap alot, keep the face clean.

It should have nothing to do with it unless you have some type of bizarre allergy to whey protein. I worked for a dermatologist through high school and he said there is no food that makes you get pimples...it's a myth

...and you're looking ripped by the way

Well, for what it's worth, I've got 4 kids ...4 teens. I can only tell you what worked for us...but, check with your doctor or naturpath to be sure before starting anything you see here on this forum.

One of my kids had a really bad case of acne - a kid with a ' love ' of all things dairy....ate a TON of dairy products. We were doing some reading about dairy and decided to cut out all dairy from the diet to see if it helped ( look up ' elimination diet ' on Google ) ...remember it takes about 3 months for your body to really reflect the ' full extent' of diet changes, but the difference after a 2 month peroid of ' no dairy ' was amazing. I'd say a 80%+ improvement in complexion.

As I said, talk to a doctor or nutritionist etc. first, but some 'trial and error' on your part might be worth a try...couldn't hurt.

Keep in mind, whey is derived from cheese, which is derived from milk ( dairy ).

How about cutting out all dairy for the next 6 weeks and see if it helps at all ????

Also keep in mind that pimples are an infection under the top layer of skin.

the only thing that took care of my acne was seeing a dermatologist and working my way through all the various antibiotics, before doing a 3 month stint of Accutane and Retin-A when I was 20-21.

    Did you have pimples previously?

I have occasional skin problems with my hand. Sometimes I shed a lot of skin, develop pimples/blister like conditions along the side of my hand, cracked skin that hurts, etc.

I went to the doctors many years ago. He basically said the problem was that I keep my hand wet all the time. For example, when I wash my hands, maybe I'm not drying to a complete, or after a shower, I don't wipe my hands clean, etc. Not like soaking wet, but just wet long enough. He recommended that I use basic hand cream to take care of it.

Now whenever I develop those cracked skin, which I do on occasion, I start using hand cream. Shortly after using hand creams (maybe about a week or two), the problem goes away.

So in your case, perhaps you are keeping your face wet all the time. I don't mean like soaking wet or even on purpose, but just wet most of the time (and maybe you not knowing it). Perhaps after showering, you're not cleaning your forehead, or maybe your face is exposed a lot to cold temperature, or maybe you're going through some type of mist and not know about it.

In whatever the case, I recommend getting a moisturizer for your face (I think they actually have them). I also recommend that whenever you deal with water or moisture, to stop, and think about it for a second and ask yourself questions... is your face wet, did you dry your face to a complete, etc.

By the way, your profile picture looks awesome. I've seen you around the forum a lot, but I never knew you looked like that. You look awesome!

Hope it works well for you. I think doctors like to try out most options before putting patients on Accutane. That stuff is no joke. My friend used it for a few months, and yes, it did work great, but he always complained about how ridiculously dry his face and lips were. I think it really really dries you out.

Accutane can possibly stop acne forever. you might still get a pimple now and then, but not 'acne'.

and when I say 'acne' i'm talking about large areas of almost rash-like pimples, in particular the cystic acne that never forms a head...just a swollen, often painful lump that can last for several weeks. this kind of acne typically causing scarring...like when you see someone with pitted scarring on their cheeks....that's from cystic acne that wasn't treated.

Accutane is EXPENSIVE though. We're talking $4 per pill, up to 4 pills a day, plus monthly blood tests and doctor's visits. Its VERY hard on your liver so they do a full lipid panel to look for signs of liver distress. A lipid panel requires you to fast for 12-14 hours prior to the blood being drawn.
You're also not supposed to drink any alcohol during the treatment period.

Average cost of an accutane treatment (usually 4 full months) is $1,500 or more. So, you want to get on health insurance that covers accutane in the prescription co-pay, as well as office visit co-pay.

Accutane basically shuts off oil production in your skin, so the doctor typically prescribes a very thick skin lotion (un-medicated) and possibly lip balm to help with the dryness.

It makes you VERY sun sensitive (10 minutes outdoors could give you a wicked sunburn).

Lastly, Accutane's worst side effect is depression. It never bothered me, but some people have actually committed suicide while on accutane...though its hard to say whether these were already 'troubled' people or if the drug was 100% responsible.

As far as other meds go, I was on doxycicline for a while...it didn't help much...none of the anti-biotics worked on me for very long. I'd improve for a few weeks, then go right back to where I was.
The only anti-biotic you should avoid if the doc suggests it, is Eurythromycin. that stuff will give you the WORST gut ache of your life. I actually had to go home from school several times because of it.

Other ones that could work and are pretty low on side effects: Tetracycline, Monocyline, Ampicilin, and amoxyicilin (several are penicilin based, so if you're allergic to that, he won't prescribe them)

Sounds like your acne is inflammatory. The doxycycline your derma prescribed you is an antibiotic, so I hope all goes well. If I remember right, you have to wait about 2 hours before or after eating to take the pill though. I am on a similar pill, minocycline. Best of luck.
