Glutamine?

This may have already been covered in a previous thread but im too lazy to look! So if anyone has a spare 2 minutes....

Anyone experienced taking glutamine and seen any significant results?

Iv done a bit of research on it and think i am gonna get some to try it, just wondering if anyone else approves.

Cheers

I have had great results with glutamine. I definitely notice a better recovery time and use it before and after workouts.

No, because L-glutamine supplementation is useless for strength/endurance athletes and body builders.

any benefit you think you're seeing is all in your head.

skip l-glutamine unless you're a burn victim or an AIDS patient in a hospital.

I second that Tom. malkore hates everything but protein and possibly creatine.

I definitely know a lot of guys who have had success with glutamine.

Personally I like it better than creatine and most other supplements I have taken.

You will always get conflicting opinions.

I put a 1000 mils of Glucosamine into my protein shake.

and I tell you that because I do alot of endurance and strength training. But I am not a body builder as such.

flyinfree - glucosamine is completely unrelated to glutamine. glucosamine is a proven supplement for joint health.

as for my general dislike for most supplement - hey, I only open my mouth when all the ACTUAL SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH says the supplement is good.

since the only positive research I've seen for l-glutamine use showed it helped slow muscle wasting in AIDS/Cancer patients, and burn victims...I give it a double thumbs down for athletic use.

and I've tried glutamine...a lot...the 'recommended 20g a day' even. It did nothing but shrink my bank account...and leaves a gritty taste in your mouth.

outlaw - how do you know its working?

I'm not trying to pick on you...I just want to know how you're gauging its effectiveness.

i started taking it on a semi-regular basis 2 years ago, and haven't really been sick yet other than a few coughs here and there.....and don't get me wrong, im NOT saying that glutamine is the ONLY reason i haven't really been sick yet, because i'm sure there's lots and lots of people who don't take it and haven't been sick, but i think it does help a bit. I also take vitamin C and a multi, but i think the glutamine does have an effect, even if it's just a small one.

I dont' take glutamine and haven't been sick in over a year. not even a sniffle, let alone catching the flu.

it certainly not gonna hurt you to take it, but I would argue strongly that the cost of glutamine is not worth the marginal benefits you think you are seeing.

I agree its really expensive...top brands anway.

But the owner of my gym (who i know well) really advises it, he puts it before anything and he's been in competitions etc and knows many many people.

Maybe that doesnt mean he's correct about it being brilliant, but still there's no harm in me trying it for 6 months or so. If i dont feel it is benefiting me by then i will quit the sh!t.
