New to whey protein and looking for advice

I'm not new to lifting but I've always just done basic nutrition after a lifting session. Something like eating a peanut butter sandwich, or chicken or tuna, a piece of fruit and milk.

I'm a thrower on the track and field team and we lift Monday, Wednesday, Friday in the afternoon. Lifting is usually after throws practice that we have Monday-Friday. I then usually go to the gym and do cardio 4-5 days a week.

My training schedule is pretty tough, but I feel I'm "wasting" some of it because of my nutrition. Things are going well for the meals throughout the day; I'm just not sure what to do after my workouts. Especially when I might be practicing/exercising two, sometimes three different times a day.

Unfortunately, I do feel I'm fairly ignorant about sports nutrition and would like to learn more. Honestly, the whole concept seems daunting and I don't know where to start. The vast majority of the articles I've read seen male-specific. I don't know how to imply them to me. I'm not looking to bulk up for competitive bodybuilding competitions; I just want to preserve the hard work I do throughout the day and am trying to find a protein product to help this. Any recommended links to help me learn more about this would be appreciated as well. Thanks.

Hi Jessie- I've been drinking Whey Isolate for the past month and I love it.

Bodybuilding.com - Optimum 100% Whey Protein - With Faster-Acting HYDROWHEY! On sale now!

When I finish working out I make a scoop of Vanilla Creme with some ice a banana or frozen fruit and water immediately (within an hour from working out) for muscle repair and recovery. I also bought the variety pack to try other flavors although I'm still sold on the Vanilla Creme.

Hope this helps.

X2 the Vanilla Creme flavor is bomb! I mix it with some skim milk, water, and yogurt (I'd make an actual shake but I for some reason haven't bought a blender...) and it tastes great!

When I first started taking Whey, I was taking the GNC Mixed Berry flavor, and it too tasted great. But the ON is a tad lower in fat, cholesterol, and has a higher protein content per serving. Seems to mix better too

Edit: I see from Waitwhat?'s link it states that it's on sale. If you have a Vitamin Shoppe near you, you can get it there for about the same price as their sale price, plus you don't pay shipping
