Protein

Hi everyone,

I recently started working out to get in shape and lose weight. Should I be using protein drinks? If so when is the best time to drink them? My wife has a bunch of bottles of Cytosport Protein drinks in the fridge she used after Gastric Bypass for the protein (obviously). But she does not like them. So I was gonna drink them but was unsure of exactly what they do.

As I stated in my intro post I am an extreme newbie to this so please be gentle

Protein shakes can be effective, but remember that is not some magical drink that will let you lose weight or let you miraculously gain muscle.

Protein shakes are easily and quickly digestable and that is why they are recommended post-workout.

Is it neccessary to drink protein shakes to make progress ?
Not at all. If your not getting enough protein throughout the day, it can help you get more into your diet. But remember the protein in that shake is the same protein you can be getting from meat, eggs, beans, dairy, nuts, etc.
