rip of fish oil...

There is like 10 different fish oil brands in the chemist today and the biggest bottle you can get is 400 caps...i check whats in each and its the 120 grams DHA and 180 grams EPA in all of them cept there is one bottle of 400 fish caps for 38 dollars or one for 17 dollars and 95 cents.....and many prices in the middle but they are the two cheapest and most expensive...you would have to be such a spastic to buy the 38 dollar one.

They were the exact same? That's weird...I paid a little extra, but mine have 200 mg DHA and 300 mg of EPA. Some probably have even more.

the more expensive one probably uses a different oil extraction process.

the cheap one might not be enteric coated, which means lots of 'fish burps' for hours after you take some.

i'm sure they had differences, but you're probably right that those differences shouldn't equal a $20 price difference.

There is no reason why they should be the same. Even creatine or vitamins from different manufactures have different prices.

What's your opinion on Fish Oils and EFA tablets? I'm making out my shopping list at the minute and have started training only a few weeks due to a long injury. I have been taking 1 a day Fish Oil tablet for a few years from my local health store - should I get 'Specific' weight training ones and up the dosage to 3 a day since I'm training? It says on the ones I have to take up to 3 times a day...

Why not consider liquid fish oil? The only use I have for caps is when I travel, otherwise, the dosage in liquid form is so much easier to deal with. I just bought a few bottles of the carlson orange flavored fish oil, and mix it with orange metamucil...two birds with one stone.
Not saying there is anything wrong with the caps, but I already take 17 pills every day, and I have to set my phone alarm to remind me or I'll forget...no way I can keep up with 3 doses per day or the like.
It's great that you are paying attention to the EFA's regardless. Probably one of the best supplements you can take, and don't skimp on the dose...go for it!

Might also want to consider flax seed/oil in the plan as well.

1 a day? Strength training kind? Fish oil is fish oil. I try to take a minimum of 5g per day. Mine also have 750mg EPA/DHA.

Nutrasea. Lemon-flavored. Tastes delicious on salads and beans and whatnot. 750mg EPA: 500mg DHA. I can get it for about $10 for 120 capsules here.

And I mean actual delicious. Not that bull**** people try to feed you about flax oil tasting good. My salty taint tastes better than flax oil.

Edit: Oh, and also, when referring to the capsules, they are of course enteric coated. No fish burps whatsoever. But with the lemon, afaik, you won't even get the burps from the straight oil. I'm taking in nearly 2 tbsp a day at the moment and nada.

Oh, I don't, Tony. Sorry if that was misleading.

I have both a bottle of encapsulated fish oil and a bottle of just fish oil (just the liquid). I go with either depending on what meal I'm taking them with. Some meals I prefer to cover in yummy lemony fish oil. Random high fiber high potassium bean + random high potassium grain + small quantity of lean meat is one of my staple meals, so the straight oil is always good with that, but most of the time I don't like to put anything on my food. No condiments, spices, anything at all. I'm really quite picky. During those times I make use of the capsules.

Although, now that you mention it, I wonder if I could just break open some capsules and... I'll give it a try.

I did it, and it was considerably less messy than I thought it'd be. What worked for me was I bit into the very tip of each capsule (somewhat slowly so as to prevent squirting), twisted the pill around a bit to make a hole, and then squeezed it out over my salad. Kind of a hassle, but it'll do in a pinch if you want some nice healthy oil flavor. I swallowed the shells afterwards just to make sure I wasn't missing out on any nutrients, but you could probably skip that. :P

Edit: This post is ridiculous, with all the innuendo. Hahahaha.

Yeah thats what i figured - my Holland and Barrett ones are probably just as good! Got some 'Met-Rx Hardcore EFAs' for £5 so thought i'd give them a try. They're cheaper than my usual ones anyway...

Unfortunately all products are not created equal....quality, potency and process of derivation all play a major factor in determining if the product actually delivers. That said, not all fish oil is created equal....when reviewed, the stuff at Costco was very poor quality. Here is some seriously excellent stuff:

Strong Omega 3 [OA10000] - $46.00 : For your health!, Orthopedic Apothecary

What few products he has are made for him and are of the highest quality...some serious consideration & time was put into the composition and quality of this stuff.

Aw crap, I have the kirkland signature maximum strength fish oil. Is this the poor quality stuff you were talking about? I have like 2/5 of the bottle left so I will probably finish it, but thats disheartening, if thats what I have, because I have read in a few places that fish oil is very important on a cut.
