Thumbs down Safe Energy Supplements?

I usually try to exercise every other day, but lately my days have become very long and I often find myself too tried to work out or anything. I was wondering if there are any supplements or energy drinks I could take that might give me at least enough energy to work out for an hour or two.

I mainly find myself tiring after I run which then hampers the rest of my workout. So basically I'm just looking for an energy drink that'll provide me enough energy to run for 2 miles and weight train for an hour. Thats all.

I've heard of those 5 hour energy shots, I tried them before but I didn't really notice anything different in the way I felt. Also I fear that they may not be the safest thing to take.

Also, please don't say "Get more rest, blah blah blah" because my day is already packed as it is and I don't need advice on that.

I used to take nodoze awakeners before I trained when I was training three times a day for swimming and lifesaving. I dont really recomend doing it often though because you can become pretty reliant on them.

The problem with the energy drinks is that you get everything else with them like refined sugar etc.

Thats a good point.

I was going through my family medicine cabinate and my brother left his "One-a-Day Active" vitamins behind when he went to college. It says on the bottle "Energy enhancing Multivitamin" so I figure that is basically what I am in the market for. Its a brand new bottle too so I think its a good place to start.

Does anyone have any experience with this kind? Is it what I'm looking for? Or should I be looking for something more along the lines of drinks (Protein shakes or whatever)?

I generally dont like energy supps. I would first look at the circumference of your diet, the amount of water you are consuming, and the amount and type of exercises--first, to see if something can be modified to bring about more energy. What type of work do you do and how many hours per day? What does your exercise routine consist of?

You specify that you run first, and from what I am reading in your post, you still have some routine left: What is it?

You are the success; I profess you can address this tiredness without much stress and still progress.

Yep there is no daubt!

Rock On!

I remember doing 4 sets of squats and 4 sets of deads (and 1 session of 25m cardio) within the same routine and was ready to heave my guts up, and pass out on the bed (my first time). ALL my energy drained right out of me. I separate the deads and squats (now, lol) from this experience. I know they are closely related, but I do deads on upper days, and squats on lower days (I know, blah, blah, blah--Just DO IT!). I like Splits though, and understand the pros and cons.

ROCK On!

How often do you eat throughout the day - both on training and on-training days ?

Do you have breakfast ?

What time of day do you train ? And before you train, how long before training do you have your last meal / snack ?

I think you are confusing NO, with products that contain NO, like NO Xplode.

NO is just a form of arginine. NO-Xplode contains arginine, caffine, taurine (the stuff in RedBull) and creatine.

NO-Xplode will make you mentally alert. NO does not.

I used to have the same problem. I was skimping on my diet trying to lose weight it was having adverse effects. I would go to the gym at night and my workouts would suffer because I was too tired.

The best thing I've done is to eat breakfast every day and I usually have 2-3 cups of green tea daily and I drink plenty of water. That does the trick for me. Even when I'm feeling fatigued during workouts, Ice-cold water is a good boost for me.

The only "energy-supplement" Ive done is Sugar Free red Bull. I mix it with Vitamin Water and take it about 30min-1hr before my workout. It works wonders if I;m dead tired and I don't have the 'crash and burn' after effect.

but breakfast is a must. plenty of water is a must. and the green tea is an added bonus.

I find that if I get mental with myself a bit--- like-- OK, let's get thru the beginning and if we don't like it, we will do whatever we want. then one of the other voices says, if we start you iknow we are going to have to keep going, and you are trying to trick us. then another one comes in and says- well he's trying to trick us because he cares and wants us to do good, then I realize I have mentally jerked off enough that
i could almost be done by now, so I JUST GET STARTED.

next thing ya know, the endorphins start, the heart rate comes up and I become

DA MACHJINE!!!!

GET SOME BEEEEYATCH!!!! and it is on!

yep.,... that's about how it goes.... doesn't it,,, depends on who you ask.

alrighty then.....

I agree with FF & his divine Chillness.....

If you smoke crack, you think you can fly....but you can't. Why allow a supplement to deceive you away from allowing yourself to feel what your body is trying to tell you? Listen to your body.

We all have days when we just don't wanna get it started....but instead of turning away (cause if you do it once, it'll happen again!) we just start into our routine and next thing ya know, you become the machine.

Listen to music, play mind-games with yourself or do what you can to find the motivation....but relying on a supplment can become a crutch and possibly habit-forming.

That said, I don't think there's anything wrong with some tea or any of these low-grade cute energy drinks (Vita-Rain vitamin enhanced water)...but these other drinks with huge aggressive florescent letters that are equivalent to 40 cups of coffee....nahh. Besides, what take you up crashes you down.

Apc0243 the OP has got something wrong as one should not need energy supplements to do a workout. Is he/she cutting or bulking? There are question marks regarding Apc0243's diet as well as exercise schedule.

90% of my workouts i have a 'caffiene kick' energy drink that the gym sells. Im really not sure if its more of a mental thing though with energy drinks. I think its more of a placebo.

Iv trained without them and worked just as hard, i dont know why i still get them, it just makes me think iv got more energy. Whether i actually have or not i dont know.

Follow a decent diet and enough sleep and you wont need one. Also do your running after weights!
