| | | 26, Time to get in shape. Hi All,
This is my first post, I hope I'm in the right place.....
I'll be 26 next week, I'm 5.8 and I'm, I think 17stone. I carry it pretty well, I mean I only (and I use it in loosest term possible) have 36inch waist. Thing is "pretty well" is no longer good enough. I'm about to turn 26, I'm just at the end of my prime and I feel if I dont do somthing now, it will be too late.
It was not always the case, while I was always on the big side, a few years ago I was 14stone, it was a good look for me as I'm broad. Over the years though the weight has been steadly going on. I went back to collage last year and completly lost motovation for training, although my exams went very well!
Now is the time to do something. The diet I think I can handle by myself, I have gone to weight watchers in the past, and it has served me well, when I stuck to it.
The traning is another story. Running is out for now, as in my current condition it would be too hard and I would not keep it it up. Walking takes too long. This leaves me with the gym ect. I plan for the first while to just do arobice training, Rower, treadmill xtrainer ect. When I get the weight down a bit the do some weights as I want to build up arms and upper body. Is this a good idea?
Also a very important question, and the one I joined up for. Most of my fat is on my torso. I have a big belly and man boobs. Even when I was 14stone I found it hard to loose weight from my chest and belly, what are the best types of traning for this? I also plan to loose 2lbs per week, good target?
Thanks in advance,
Steve. |

The best way to lose fat from the area you specify is: Through the diet. There is no magic pill or special exercise. You MUST exercise diet knowledge and then apply it to yourself.
One cannot spot reduce or get fat to come off one area.
It will come off all over the body. In general, its like draining a pool, in general the smallest area will drain first before the larger deeper end.
Diet compliments the training, and the reverse can be true: Training can compliment the diet. But in the end: Diet is the ultimate KING for your results in weight loss.
What is 17stone? in wgt? |

| | You'd be better off incorporating weight training from the beginning. You're limiting yourself doing only cardio work. This sticky has a lot of great advice.
P.S. Yes, 2 lbs a week is a good target. |

| | Hey there herboo, I'm glad to hear that you're ready to whip your self into shape. If I were you, I would definitely start lifting weights right off the bat, espeacially if you want to get rid of the fat in your chest. Doing chest exercises with weights or any type of exercise with weights designed for a specific body part burns fat in that area. And, 2 pounds a week is an excellent goal. You shouldn't want to loose any more than that, otherwise you would surely be loosing muscle mass in the process rather than fat. And I wouldn't recommend jenny craig. They're more conserned with WEIGHT LOSS rather than FAT LOSS. Something that helped me in the beginning with my weight loss was this ecourse program at The Holy Grail Of Fitness . It was free to, which was great, espeacially considering the information it had in it.
Hope this helps, good luck |

| | | Try to incorporate some of all of it - a good eating plan, cardio, and strength training.
Weight Watchers has its pros and cons (as does any wt loss program).
Pros-
encourages balanced eating
encourages water consumption
teaches portion control
emphasis on eating enough fruits and veggies
social support (online and in person)
applicable to real world situations (like parties, restaurants, holidays)
encourages exercise
Cons-
outdated on weighing system (does not accommodate for muscle gain if lifting wts) - would be better if they took measurements/estimated bf%
some locations push the WW food
technically, one can eat nothing but junk food, and still fit within their points |
