| | | Biggest Loser Just wondering if anybody watches the tv reality show "Biggest Loser" and what you think of it.
Is it a good influence for others to lose weight? Is it a bad reflection on how a person should and will lose weight in the real world?
Bring your thoughts..I would like to hear them! |

| | | Sadly, for entertainment purposes, they only show the physical battle overweight people fight. They don't show the true battle every overweight person fights: food. No one would watch the show if they saw a fat person eating and crying about it. It's more entertaining to show people acting "physical" rather than people acting smart and using common sense.
In other words, these shows are horrible, in my opinion. They emphasize on physical activities as a way to lose weight rather than the actual problem which is people's diet. Sure, many people lack physical activity, but that doesn't mean you're going to get fat as a result of inactivity. If they can make a show where they approach weight loss with common sense, I would favor that show. Any person who lost massive weight, and kept it off for more than five years can tell you first hand that it isn't done by doing hours of physical training; it's the diet. |

| | | Actually they focus a lot on diet on the show.
One thing I think is a problem though is they set up unrealistic expectations. There are people on the show who are in tears because they "only" lost 4 lbs in a week, which is a lot! |

| | | I've never sat through an entire season, but I find myself stopping whenever I pass it. If it inspires people who otherwise may not know where to start, then I think it's great. I mean, there really are some remarkable changes by the end.
That said, don't they work out like 4-6 hours a day every day? Not something that's maintainable, but if it teaches some nutrition and workout basics to people who need it, then more power to them. |

| | | I just started a new workout program this week and I think it had something to do with the show. When I saw people much heavier than me doing it I thought I could do it too. What they are doing on the show in my eyes is nothing short of amazing. These people are doing whatever it takes and they are changing many, many people’s lives. I know it's a show but I identify with one of the contestants and he deals with the food and exercise issues the same way I do. |

| | I think the methods they use on the show are way too extreme. I can understand that they want the show to be as dramatic as possible, but expecting the contestants to lose over 10 lbs in one week is ridiculous. Whatever happened to the 1 lb a week limit for healthy weight loss? I know the people on the show are very overweight, but some have lost as much as 13 lbs in one week. That can't be healthy.
I still watch it nevertheless. It is entertaining, and I like seeing how the contestants have changed. I also think the one male personal trainer, the one for the blue team, is kind of cute. |

Cool combo. When you look at someone 460 loosing 10 pounds that is just like someone 230 loosing 5 pounds on someone 153 pounds loosing 3 pounds. I guess it's all relitive. |

| That is true. It is not uncommon for people who are EXTREMELY overweight to lose 10lbs or more in a week.
Especially if you look at the contestants on the show. They are going to lose a lot in the beginning simply because they have a huge amount of weight to lose. Quote: |

| The 1 lb a week thing is just a squishy feel good stat used for people who are having slow results. |

| | | I do not enjoy shows like "The Biggest Loser". I believe that they promote the wrong ideas. They provide a lot of the right information but not enough information. "Ignorant" people watch these shows and go copy what they have seen, hoping for the same results. They do not have much knowledge to start with nor do they seem to want to acquire any really. These shows and the people who create the shows get me ticked off. They provide false hope. | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
