Help me with a diet!

Lately, I've been getting into shape, and doing really well. But, I know my progress is due mostly to exersize, not my diet. While I don't eat greasy bacon burgers, I know I consume probably a couple thousand calories a day.

I am trying to find a decent diet plan online to get a general idea of what to eat. Some information that might be helpful is my activity level, I ride my bike at least 10 miles a day, and I jog 1-2 miles at least 5 times a week. I do also some occasional jump roping, for 15 mins or so.

So I know my diet has to have some vital nutrients, i cant just eat a peach for a meal at my activity level. I'm taking multivitamins regularly, but I know I have to eat well.

Any recommendations on a book I can get, or somewhere i can find a diet that would give me an idea of what to get, shopping lists or whatever. Maybe something that maps out a few weeks or whatever of what to eat. I know I can stick with it as long as it's mapped out.

Any recommendations?

I don't have any books that fully outlines a diet for you. Those that do sucks as they insist that you're large simply because of fat, carbs, or something like that. I highly recommend making your own schedule of diet as it will help you greatly. Just following someone else's guide is going to cause you great failure later, in my opinion.

Best book I read yet is, "New Rules of Lifting" by Lou Schuler, and Alwyn Cosgrove. It talks about exercise mostly, but it has a very good section on diet. It doesn't outline any plan, but gives you a very good idea of what to eat. The basic principle is that if you can't see the food roaming or growing in the wild, then it is most likely not good for you. If you have to break down a particular ingredient more than three times to get its natural state, then it's probably not good for you.

Another good book I read is, "The U.S. Navy SEAL Guide to Fitness and Nutrition" by by Patricia A. Deuster, Anita Singh, and Pierre A. Pelletier. The book is divided up into two sections: Fitness and Nutrition. It goes into great detail on how your body works, how nutrition plays a vital role in things, and so fort. Granted most of the book assumes that you are already a SEAL operator, but I read it with open mind that it can be applied to a everyday person.
