See, I thought aerobics was a bic lighter that was aerodynamically designed to be tossed across the room. Glad we got that cleared up. How can we learn more about this so-called "aerobics"???? Inquiring fitness buffs wanna know......

The "negativity" on the forum has been rather depressing, and has even touched my own motivation to a degree---if that were even possible in the first place with the rather ferocious nature it wraps and encloses on myself.

Wrangell is and continues to be a valueable contributing member on the forum, and has no comparison to Gnutella/Tribal. This statement is irrelevent to Wrangell and I's prior (and possible future) disagreements. In a nutshell, show me one group of friends/family, that see eye to eye, or speak the exact frame of mind-without logistical disagreements,etc....., and if you can, it may be a family somewhat unhealthy.

Let's stop the negative "posting pops" to one another; instead work with your problems, and TURN WHAT YOU SEE AS A NEGATIVE......INTO A POSITIVE.....TURN IT AROUND.......SEEK IT AND YOU WILL FIND!

My post "has good intentions". Lets move on.

So basically, with your example, you were motivated and determined to like your bike. You found shortly after sticking with it, that you grew to love it. Now, you don't need to motivate or make yourself determined because now you have obedience. You use the bike now because you like it.

I find your example to be very different from others. Take me for example, I always wanted to run, as a matter of fact, that is why I went to the gym in the first place. I didn't care about weight loss or anything like that at first. I knew it was going to be painful, and it was. I was motivated and determined to run. I stuck with it, and now I don't need to motivate or make myself determined to run. I'm obedience now and I don't even think about it when I want to run. It took me nearly 2-3 months before I can even run a mile under 13 minutes. Now I can hit a mile in 8 minutes, and it's continue to go down.

I always recommend people do things they like. When you’re motivated and determined to do something, you will become obedience in the end when you stick with it. Always remember though, that motivation and determination run dry after a while. You get tired of what you’re doing because every time you do it, you have to become motivated and determined to do it. This only lasts a short while, and it is not an ideal way of doing fitness.

Right now, I'm motivated and determined to bench press despite the fact it is quite painful for me, and I haven't been paying much attention to my bench press. I know that with motivation and determination, I can continue doing it. I also know, however, that if I continue to run on motivation and determination, one day I will become tire of it and will stop. I know that in order for me to continue doing it, I need to become obedience.

Some attempt to explain what my motivations are, and its "rare" they even come close to the actual truth. This is no exception, Dallen. My post was more in line with making some realize, that "within" their goal journey, they may be confronted with "things" they dont like (various things, and the bike was just an example), but.....have it in us to overcome it....and thus just DO IT, if its beneficial.

This was the "theme", and I apologize, if this wasnt clear.

It is because they are weak. Mentally weak to be more precise. Fitness, like every other aspect of life, it involves doing some things that we don't like and are not fun. That is how everything is. That is what it takes to get results.

People that quit soon after they start are simply not ready to make a change in their life, they are not ready to deal with the type of things they have to do to make change.

In that context, they do not care enough.

So pick the poison, mental weakness, or not caring.

Well said Goergen1....

What I find quite interesting is that you could go up to most people and say to them "would you give-up one year of your life for $10,000?"....most people would say heck no! If you offered them $100,000 they still wouldn't take it.

I realize it's all hypothetical because there's no way of extracting a precise measure of someones time/life...but if you suspended disbelief and figured your life/time could be traded like a comodity...you'd find that most people wouldn't barter their time/life under any circumstances or perhaps a few wild-cards would say "sure, give me 10 million and I'll sell you ONE year".

So.....let's flip this equation around. If the value of life/time is priceless or worth millions, then wouldn't you think the average person would be motivated/inclined towards optimizing their health and putting-out the effort to maximize their lifespan????? And yet we see a growing majority of Americans walking around morbidly obese and lifestyles devoid of regular exercise....how does this make sense?

Some of us workout for the health benefits, others to look a certain way...I suppose we all have our reasons, but in the end it's probably a combination of several. I think it's a matter of realization that we're inevitably trapped inside our physical bodies and making the most of it is a priority to us...to the point where we're willing to push hard and make sacrifices to achieve our goal. In short, the benefits and satisfaction derived from our lifestyle are valuable enough to us that we do it.

Perhaps others are in a state of suspended disbelief where they don't think they'll get diabetes, heart-disease or compromise the quality of their life or their lifespan in general. Each day they'll rise, go about their routine and life will go on...all they need to do is perpetually plan to get in shape or perhaps they just acknowledge that they ought to do it....all along never facing the reality of the situation. For many, it takes a scary situation for them to confront this reality.

Why are we motivated and others aren't? I can only figure they are ignorant or we are more aware...but either way, it's obviously a priority to us and we're willing to go the extra distance to fulfill our interest for a multitude of benefits & reasons.

I dunno....life is strange, but in the end we can only live our own lives. I suppose it's normal to look around and presume others see things from our same perspective. Human nature's a funny thing.
