| | | Just looking for advice on this program Hey guys. So I've got a month and a half of vacation on my hands (college break between semesters), and I figure I'll have plenty of time to get in better shape. I've been doing well so far by changing my eating habits and by becoming more active (went from 195 to 155 in the past two years), but I'd like to try out boxing next semester and want to lose more body fat. So this is what I've been doing:
--everyday jog for 40 minutes when I wake up, before breakfast
--rotate biceps/back & shoulders/punching bag workout on a three-day rotation
--rotate doing 336 sit-ups/336 push-ups on a two day rotation
I don't know if I can handle doing 336 push-ups every other day, so I might throw in a rest day or something else, but overall, I'd like to see what people think about this. My goal is to lose body weight and minimize loss of muscle. I'd just like to get other peoples' opinions to see if I'm doing the right thing here. Thanks! |

Congrats on the weight loss! 40 pounds! good job man! I concur with Wrangell. Why exactly 336 pushups?
Keep on trucken.....you have a good knowledgeable forum member that first responded to your question. Be sure to respond with an answer.

| | | 336...I've got to know. The best I can figure is that you're doing sets of 21, 16 times a day...perhaps once an hour for every hour you're awake.
But then why 21....
The mystery deepens. |

| | | Ahh, sorry guys; I didn't mean to perplex you with the "336" pushups thing. What I do is use a deck of cards. I pull out three cards at a time, and do as many pushups as the numbers add up to (picking up a face card is ten pushups, picking up a 6 card is 6 pushups, picking up an Ace is nothing), take a little break, and repeat until the deck is empty. So by my math:
Four different suits, the numbers 2 through ten plus jack, queen, king:
4(2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9+10+10+10+10)=336
Anyways, I wasn't that clear: I'll do 336 pushups one day, 336 situps the next day, 336 pushups the third day, 336 situps the fourth day, etc...
Alright, my post will be confusing unless I address everyone individually:
Wrangel: I guess I do so many because I figure the more I do, the faster my results will come, or the better the results will be. I don't mind doing so many because I have nothing but time for a little while. But if you think that it's overdoing it, I'll look into that.
Chillen: Thanks man! I actually don't give myself too much credit for the weight loss, because the things I enjoy changed (I got bored of playing videogames all the time and started doing some sports programs), so the weight loss didn't really take much effort for me. I just did the things I enjoyed, and stopped eating fatty foods all the time.
Derwy: Ah, I didn't even see those stickies! Thanks. Actually, the reason I haven't been doing much real weight training is because I don't have a gym membership when I'm off from school. When I'm at school, I do have a gym membership on campus, but at home, no such luck. I'm not going to be able to find any affordable gym plan for me just for break, so I'm limited to what I have in my basement: a punching bag, a few dumbbells, and a bench press. I'd rather not use the bench press because I'd have to get a spotter, but I guess that's an option. Actually, my diet has been pretty good so far too (avoiding fatty foods, eating protein after I workout), so I don't think that'll be a problem.
DEF: Sorry to make you think about the 336 thing, haha.
Anyways, so I'll go check out those stickies now. Thanks for the advice. |

| Hey no problem young man! You deserve the credit. Losing weight can be hard work, buddy! Congrats again! And, welcome to the forum. Read on the stickies and come back if you have any questions.
Matter of fact you could start your own journal. In this journal you could state your feelings, post your diet, post your workout routine, and ask questions. Its like your own personal journal. I think it could help da' brotha' out!
What do you think?
KEEP ON SMOKEN AND ROCKEN yourself! Thats right.......keep moving forward man!
ROCK ON!
Best wishes to you!

| | | Ahh, I'm sorry guys, I guess I already had an account on this site and didn't realize it and made another one. It was quite a long time between making accounts; I guess I just tried my default "LeftyGrove" after and it worked. My bad. |

. | Guess it depends on what you mean by ' results '.
If by ' results ' you mean you want more muscular endurance from your ab and chest muscles...then I suppose doing 300+ reps will get you there.
But don't fall into the fallacy of thinking that ' if a little is good then more is better ' applies in all cases when it comes to training.
For example, if you wanted to add some size to your arms, you likely wouldn't get any more significant results by doing 900 bicep curls in a week ( 3 X a week @ 300 reps / day ) with a light weight than by doing 90 ( 3 X a week @ 30 reps / day ) with a relatively heavier weight.
My view when it comes to training is not to train longer, but to train smarter. That is, to train for the maximum results possible in the minimum amount of time possible ( which usually means training ' harder ' ) In other words, if 90 reps a week get you pretty much the same results than 900 reps....I'd opt for 90 reps a week...........but that's just me. |

| | | Hmm... if that's the case, then alright, maybe I'll go back to the usual 3-day workout, and replace the push-ups with using my bench press. I'll get my dad to spot me, or I won't use clips or something. I'll try some of the techniques in that ab sticky (although I might not have the equipment for everything). I'm actually off to Walmart to buy some stuff, and a workout mat will be included.
Chillen, I think that journal thing sounds REALLY useful, for me and maybe even others. I'll keep it to myself and write it in Word daily, and then post it week-by-week if you'd like.
Also, I tried deleting my LeftyGrove04 account, but I can't find a button for that in CP... can an admin do it? |

You can make one for yourself personally and/or keep one right here on the forum in the journal section. I think this could get the fire burning bright, young man.
Give it a shot......
Best wishes in all that you set out to do!
