From what you said in your first post about how you pretty much "know all there is to know about losing fat" or something like that.
Never assume you know all there is about anything, you will always be proven wrong.
Honestly, if you want to lose weight, it's easier to cut when you HAVE a muscle base (such is my understanding and personal experience). So cutting before you have one will be much more difficult, and possibly a longer process than simply getting a muscular base first. The sacrifice you make now by being maybe in your opinion overweight will pay off later when you shed it.
I lost about 55 lbs. in 1 year. That's what I say because it took me that long to do it. THis is because after every few months of cutting, i spent some time gaining weight, rebuilding or reinforcing lean base. This, in my opinion, made losing all the weight much easier and faster. That and I dind't feel like a total pansy, though admittedly I'm not really that strong.
I don't know everything, and I know I don't ^^
What I mean is I know a lot more than when I started, which is what its like for everyone.
That is a very valid point, I go to the gym on Monday or Wedensday, and there is an expert there who goes on these days, so hopefully I'll get a chance to talk to him/others and all will become a bit clearer.

If this is a commercial gym you're going to this so called "expert" likely knows little to nothing.
Here are some key points.
If he doesn't mention compound exercises, squats, and deadlifts, then he's no expert.
