Need some back up on this

Ok, so basically, I have put on a few kilograms (about 14 or so) so around 30lbs in total.
Maybe a bit is muscle, because along with a higher calorie intake I have cycled and ran a bit, but mostly fat I'm sure.

I am not new to weight loss, I am pretty sure that now I know pretty much all there is to know about losing weight and that.
I actually did end up anorexic, as most of you will know, but I believe that was from a lack of understanding.
I can remember posting pictures thinking I was "fat" when I was actually very thin and asking people what I could do to get it to go away. But I don't think it was because of a distorted image in my head, I just think I had a lack of lean mass to "fall back on" as it where.

ANYWAY, on to losing this weight and all that.
I would like to get down to about 51-55 kilograms, and at my 65 kilograms that shouldn't be too much effort.
What I am asking is would this be a good idea in the first place, or should I bulk a bit more then lose this weight? (Keeping in mind that the weight I put on is probably mostly fat).

If I am going to go on losing weight, what kind of defict am I aiming for?
Should I burn around 250 calories doing excercise, and lose 250 off my BMR leaving me with a 500 total? Or could I stretch it to 500 calories for each?

See, being a teenager I am unsure about my metabolism, and stuff.
Will weight loss occur faster in me than most adults? Would a faster loss be unhealthy?

Its all good at the moment.
The only calorie counting I do will be rough estimates to make sure the weight actually comes off.
My counciller will weigh me to see how I'm getting on, and as long as its gradual which is what I want, everything will be ok.

According to this equation (my BMR)
Men: BMR = 66 + ( 13.7 x weight in kilos ) + ( 5 x height in cm ) - ( 6.8 x age in years ) 1.6

I should be eating 1600 calories a day, just a bit over that.
Surely that can't be right? If I subtract 500 calories to lose weight from that it leaves me at 1100 calories, and I doubt thats right.

My activity in the day normally consists of:
Running, can last anything between 30 to about 50 minutes.
Cycling to and from work, probably about 10-25 minutes each way. (3 miles each way)
General activitys, eg running to a friends house, walking about, going up town, and so on.

My diet is from now on going to be very clean.
I plan to have a bit of a varied diet each day that starts like this:

Get up - do my 30-50 minute run

Breakfast - Muesli, made with semi-skim milk and a few pumpkin seeds

Snack - Apple/Orange/Strawberries/Raspberries/Natural-BioYogurt

Lunch - Pitta, on bread with chicken or some other form of meat, some lettuce, tomtatoes, etc - or a chicken/tuna sandwich with veg
Possibly add on some natural cottage cheese

Snack - Again, some form of fruit or Yogurt

Dinner - Whatever Mum makes, but I'll do my best to make sure its clean, something like brown rice and grilled chicken with some veg, or something like that

Supper - Possibly some cottage cheese, if I feel up to it

Squeeze in a cycle and my daily activities between those too, they may varie every day.

I might do a full body workout in between there with my dumbells and using body weight too.

Probably no more than 1600 calories I'd say, and thats probably stretching that number a bit.

I want to be losing 2lbs of fat per week, and as a teenager that shouldn't be TOO hard I'm thinking.
What do you guys think??

Oh I am sorry, I calculated wrong.
I used some calculator on a page that uses this forumla and it made it more clear.

From this I should be eating around 2500 to maintain.
So I think I will eat about 2100-ish per day, while burning about 600.
Meaning I'm at a total defict of 1000.
That will cause me to lose 2lb's per week, right?

Ah, its so great to know what I'm doing now.

Just a question in advance.
When I'm coming up to the end of my loss, say, 1 or 2 kilo's off, should I gradually start lifting my calorie intake?

Also, at the moment I am not worrying about macros (protein, carb, fat).
I don't feel the need to, from the diet I posted do you think that it is sufficent.
I,e including a serving of protein, veg, bread/rice, and for some meals fat (butter, peanut butter, yogurt, etc)

Have to agree with the above post and the one previous.

Also, consider whether losing weight is really an appropriate goal, since (if your height is 5'4" as given in another post) you are not "overweight" by orthodox measures. Is the real goal performance (e.g. strength, endurance, and/or ability to do some sport more effectively) and/or health? Or something else entirely? Consult your doctor.

Well, I just piled on a lot of pounds and I'm not really that comfortable with it.
Mainly because most of my old trousers aren't fitting too well at all.

Not to mention I have been out of shape for quite a while and I'm not happy being that way.

I ran a bit although seeing little improvement, but now I have been going running more frequently and for a longer time so I'm starting to see good results.

I just enjoy seeing myself improve

While the "old trousers" method can be a useful indicator for a full grown adult, it may not be accurate for a teenager who is still growing, since younger people who are still growing do outgrow their clothes. Or if the old trousers fit you when you were unhealthily underweight.

You have not indicated anything about your body fat percentage or some proxy like waist / height ratio. It is possible to be overfat even if you are not overweight by orthodox measures ("skinny fat"), but it is unlikely if you are a teenager, eat cleanly, and exercise.

Again, consider (in consultation with your doctor) whether a goal focused on weight is really an appropriate goal, or if a goal framed in terms of strength / endurance / performance / health is a more appropriate goal.

Hmm, considering maybe switching from a 30 minute run to a 20-25 minute-ish sprint/run.
What do you guys think?

I mean well with this post and have the BEST of intentions.

But I am troubled with you.

I think some of us are missing the picture here.

I haven't totally reviewed all of your posts/threads, so I am just slightly handicapped, and dont have the entire picture, but arn't you the one that originally weighed 124 at 5' 7" (male), and trying to LOSE weight?

YOU ARE THIN........I dont have any other word for it, and apologize in advance if I hurt your feelings.

I am a little troubled with your situation.

Wasnt your first post around July 2007?

And, you are STILL confused about your calorie intake, and STILL are wanting to lose tissue.......???

When..........I tried (and others have tried in various opinions) to assist you?

Like in these threads:

http://training.fitness.com/weight-l...ach-28249.html

http://training.fitness.com/weight-l...ode-32763.html

http://training.fitness.com/weight-l...-if-32631.html

http://training.fitness.com/weight-l...ise-32414.html

Are these your PICS as of APRIL 08?

I told you then that at 124lbs, and 5' 7" seemed mighty light for a male and especially a teenager. Young man you are THIN!!!!

You should re-evalute your situation, IMO.

1. 1600 is FAR TOO LOW. I understand you weigh 120ish, but you are only 16 years old!

2. WHY.....are you stilling wanting to LOSE TISSUE?

You need some MEAN MEAT on those bones!

Young man, I believe you are confused.

YOU NEED TO BE ROCKED---------->IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION---->Young man.

1. Start a personal journal (keep your posts in one spot (reference goal-like things) to save sporadic confusion, and unnecessary hardship on learning your goals and complications, etc.
2. Get your goals organized.

You wanting to lose tissue........just doesnt settle that well with me at the moment..........

Any one have an opinion on this?

Best wishes,

Chillen

I think you are right Chillen, well, I am not that light anymore, and I am actually shorter than you stated, being just nearly 5ft 4 :P

But really, I am trying to cut abit, but slowly, and more or less maintaining at the moment.
I wasn't exactly warned about my weight going up too much, my counciller that I regularly see basically said that its going up, perhaps a tad too fast and its okay if I want to lose a bit and cut back.
Weight has gone up to around 10 stone (140-145lbs it ranges from now I believe)

At the moment I'm not too far from where I very first started with fitness this time last year.

I ain't too thin anymore, but I'd like to cut back a bit, then get the good meat on my bones (mainly due to the fact that my trousers don't fit me the best at the moment :P)

The good thing is, I FINALLY am getting access to a gym where I can at last stat lifting a bit.

Chillen, thank you so much for your concern man.
This is the place where I started trying to lose weight, and I have always looked upon you guys as an inspiration to where I want to be some day.

Its all been a huge learning curve though, which is where I feel my anorexia came out of, simply because I don't know what is best for me.
When I was admittedly a bit chubby I tried to educate myself about fitness and the nutrtion I needed, and it was like... well, I don't know what it was like, it was just a huge amount of information for me to take in, I hadn't a clue what a protein, calorie, carb, or anything like that was.

================================================================
Let me recap my story for you

March/June 07, (I think it was), a close friend, and a few others comitted suicide, I think this has something to do with what happened to me

June/July 07, decided to lose weight, wanted to get healthier, decided something HAD to change

August 07, things were well underway, I had a bit more knowledge on diet, and I had started running and cycling a bit at this stage, lost some weight

September 07, started back to school, everyone had noticed I had lost this weight

October 07, began getting depressed about my appearance and general life, I didn't know what was going on

November 07, started seeking help, didn't feel great and started missing school a lot, or getting taken home early
At the end of November, I was diagonsed with anorexia and started seeing a different counciller from the one I see now, he didn't know a great deal from what I gathered

December 07, continued therapy, didn't help much and my condition worsened, my weight had I'm sure already plunged below 100lbs, began getting cold, pale, crap circulation, more depressed, constant starvation (although I could ignore it very easily)

January 08, started having meetings in a hospital, because my condition was still getting worse, I was put on a diet plan that I could handle, although I believe I only once gained weight which I lost again,
my weight had plunged to around 90lbs at around January 25th, and I was admitted to hospital before I ended up killing myself (due to being malnoursied and my organs would've been used as a source of fuel)

About March/April-ish 08, started getting out of hospital, and eventually got to a safe weight of 50.5kilos (111lbs)

And in the past few months my weight went up and down, but the past few weeks my weight has went up and up, due to eating more, I'm not annoyed much about it, because I know I don't have to keep it on if I dont want to.
But at the moment I am at a bit more than 60 kilo I believe.
=====================================================================================

I mean, I don't care much about numbers so much anymore, but I'd love to look fitter, and stay satisifed with who I am and what I am.

Physically, I am recovered, mentally, almost I believe, in the coming months I feel I will be, because already almost feel I am.

After saying all that, what advice would you guys give me?

Thanks guys, just for being here for me ^^

If all you weigh is a bit over 120 pounds then forget about cutting. I think you need to talk to someone about your self-assessment issues.
