What would happen if...

So I've always wondered what would happen if you ate a TON of calories in one sitting.
Or even drank them through energy supplements?

How would your body handle this unexpected move? Would it use and store only so much then simply reject the rest?

Its a simple question, and might seem a tad silly but I've just been wondering

This actually ISNT a simple question.

There are far too many personal and individual variables involved: history of the person, genetics, biological efficiency, whether one does fitness activities, etc, etc, to "acurately" determine what will take place person to person.

It will just depend on the biological functions of the individual and other personal variables.

It can vary primarily dependent on the diet trend leading up to eating a "TON" in one sitting. And, the actual amount of the "TON".

If this TON is one's MT Line of calories, its likely not to cause any harm (in unwanted tissue gain); however, if the person's history preceeding to eating at the MT Line in one sitting was a surplus, one could still gain fat tissue--despite eating at the MT Line, because of the very recent surplus trend.

Some persons can be more tolerant to a reasonable surplus if their was deficit diet trend in their "very" recent history. Likewise, (assuming one is healthy) this act of eating a ton, may not have much of an impact dependent on the amount consumed.

However, if the trend was a surplus leading up to "eating a ton" the fat can be stored accumulatively as time passes, there "may" be some water gain, and increase in feces storage (etc), but "usually" it wont manefest itself over night (again dependent upon prior history, etc), but if the process continues (as the body is biologically processing things all the time), its like putting a puzzle together, it begins to form a picture, and fat accumulates.

This is assuming healthy individual with no biological function problems.

Best regards,

Chillen

This happened to me two weeks ago, and I really didn't notice a difference. I had a ton of calories, and I thought I added a little fat on, but within a few days I couldn't notice anything different.

If it's just a one time deal, nothing to really worry about. No biggie.

What matters is consistency. If you are consistently eating over your MT line, then you will consistently gain weight.

I've found when someone says they "ate a ton" it really isn't all that bad. They may of thought they ate a lot when in reality they ate way too little.

really? That's reassuring. I'm gonna go to the royal fork and eat a ton now because it will probably be TOO LITTLE.

dallen is right, especially when you see skinny guys saying they cant gain weight, even though they say they eat all the time. if they actually counted cals, they might see that they are not eating nearly as much as they should, and should raise.

The body maintains a steady-stream of blood-sugar & keeps it within a certain range. If the blood-sugar drops, you get signals that you're hungry. If blood-sugar rises (after eating) the glucose goes into your 1) muscle, 2) Liver and once those are full the pancreas releases insulin and the insulin ushers your glucose into 3) Fat. These are the primary means with which your body stores unused energy. In men, it's the gut, in woman, it's the butt...in Chillen it's teleported to the mother-ship and used to make copies of the latest Hannah Montana DVD.

Your blood, muscle & liver can only hold so much....so even if you eat 1,800 or 4,800 calories.....you're gonna have a surplus and it gets stored.

What you may be getting at...and something I've considered/contemplated...is: will your body just say "enough" and just blow it through the intestines and offer it up to the porcelin God's? (presuming the tape-worm doesn't get it )

NO. Food is digested, excess energy beyond your immediate needs are stored, stored & stored. At the end of the day, week, month or year it all boils down to how much came in vs. how much went out. Factor in how confusing this weeks episode of LOST was and account for the fluctuating size of Pamela Anderson's breast and you basically have your overall outcome.

As for people who claim they can eat ANYTHING and not gain weight (these are generally people I visualize on the target when I'm at the gun range capping-off some 9-mil)....well, they're generally able to eat a lot, but if you followed them you'd find they skip meals, walk out of restaurants leaving massive amounts of french fries un-eaten on their plate (sin!) and while they do eat a lot at certain sittings, they overall eat less then they'd have you believe. I need to believe this, cause if not...I've got a major bone to pick with my maker come de-comp time!

Bottom-line: surpluses are stored....unless surplus meets beer, vodka, rum, whiskey and tequila...

Ya know, sometimes when nobody's home I dance & sing around the house in my underwear.....doesn't make me Madonna, never will. Maybe BoyGeorge, but let's not go there.....

Easy answer: it will basically store all the extra energy.

This friend I spoke of earlier is one of those guys, and I hate him for it. He's 5'9" 150lbs or so, and can take in 5000+ calories daily without gaining ANY fat. He didn't work out for over a year with those kind of eating habits (fast food, etc) and this is how he looked:
http://a505.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...71df6569f8.jpg

Now he's bulking, gained like 10lbs pretty much pure muscle in a little over a month, still has a perfect six pack etc. His metabolism is amazing lol.

BTW the 4k+ calories in one sitting were from hard taco's from Del Taco on taco tuesday ($1.09 for 3 tacos) - he ate 27.
