| | 3600 Calories Required for Bulking?!?! Ok, so I did the formula to get my BMR, which comes out to 2098 calories. Multiplied that by 1.5 (my activity level, went with a median from light to moderate activity) to get 3147. Multiplied that by 115% to get 3619.
For additional info, I'm male, 17 years old, ~193lbs, 6'2".
Does this not seem like an absurd amount of calories to eat in one day?!? I'm skeptical that I wouldn't be putting on pounds of fat eating so much.
Here is my lifting routine (done in the form ABxABxx, e.g. Upper on Monday and Thursday, Lower on Tuesday and Friday):
UPPER:
* Bench Press
* Seated Row
* Pec-Fly
* Pulldown
* Military Press
* Lateral Raise
* Triceps Extension
* Curl
* Shrug
LOWER:
* Squat
* Straight-Leg Deadlift
* Lunge
* Seated Leg Curl
* Calf Raise
* Decline Sit-Up
* Hanging Leg/Hip Raise
* Side Bend
What do you guys think? |

If your maintenance really is 2000, 3600 = 2+ lbs of fat a week. |

| | | 2098 is my Basal Metabolic Rate...have to take that and multiply it by your activity level. Since Light = *1.4 and Moderate = *1.6, I went with the middle and multiplied 2098*1.5 to get 3147, which is my maintenance supposedly. |

| | No, it's not a lot. For bulking, that is. Calculators can be wrong, though. Have you been maintaining weight consistently (for a period exceeding two months) at a particular caloric intake? If yes, eat 500 calories more than that a day. If no, try what the calculator says and see how it works.
Basically, shut up and eat. |

| | | It takes a little trial and error. Don't expect a formula to work perfectly for you. I'm 6'1 185 and I maintain at about 3800, most my size would eat more than 1000 below that. I was recently sick and lost a few pounds so I'm currently eating 4200 |

| | Yea, the shut up and eat plan is what's going to end up working for me
I'll stick with this for a few weeks, and if I'm not liking the results, just adjust in either direction? Makes sense. 3600 just jumped out at me
****************************
Also, I'm kinda playing on the safe side to avoid accumulating a bunch of excess fat... I (according to the calculator) should probably be eating around 3700 to gain.
Is that 60 to 100 less calories I'm missing out on going to hurt my muscle gains severely?

| | | Off the top of my head that number seems about right, I'm 6'2", 225lbs and maintain weight at about 4,000 Kcal a day so your 3,600 seems reasonable to me | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
