advice for routine

i have several questions. first of all is it proper to bend the knees when doing dead lifts.? what would be a good set/rep/weight scheme for cable side laterals if you're looking for good definition.? lastly, any recommendations regarding a routine for a 52 year old guy who wants to maintain and possibly put on a little more muscle and definition.?

thanks

Yes, bend your knees in a dead-lift. As far as routines and set/rep ranges, there is a lot of info on the web on this, check out the "weight training 101" thread for more information and links.

there are different types of deads, but im sure they are require some bending of the knee, even in the stiff leg. In the conventional dead, you should squat down and assist the lift with your legs, and make sure back is straight
