Bench Press/push up equivalent weight Hi Guys,
This may be a difficult question but just out of curiosity, what do you think the equivalent weight would be going from push ups to bench press?
At the moment I am doing 3x10 reps with 25 kg's (55 pounds) in a backpack on the top half of my back. I currently weight about 202 pounds with most of my fat situated around my mid section.
while I understand bench press requires less use of your core strength, what do you reckon the equivalent bench weight would be?
At a guess I would say about 155 pounds?
Cheers! -
I tihnk I read in the NROL that pushup is equal to a bench press of 60% of your body weight. So, I'd be more like 175 for bench. -
Wow, that's really bizzaire, because I asked a question almost identical to this, only a little while back
It's worth checking out: http://training.fitness.com/weight-t...ses-25889.html
Hmm, I don't remember those last 2 posts being there =/ -
i will say what i said in that thread again. They are completley different movements, so dont bother to compare them too much. -
And I can confirm that, as I did quite a lot of both today -
If you want to determine how much resistance (load) a pushup is, simply perform one with your hands on a bathroom scale. I weigh about 172# and when I do a pushup the scale reads 75#. -

hand positioning also dont forget hand positioning, if ur gonna try to equate a pushup to a wide grip bench press then you gotta use a wide arm pushup
kinda obvious but some people may have passed over this small detail -
Also you can try elevating your legs,as this will incorporate more weight Similar Threads -
