| | | Big Time NEWBIE....some questions Well Im 20 yrs and the last 3 years of my life have been very rough. Rough as in nothing but complete laziness....So the other day I jsut said enough is enough....and went to the gym. Got a membership and started biking to get myself ready....I never been is this bad of shape before ever. I tohught I was going to have a heart attack. Im 6'3 158lbs....I want to get into shape a little bit before I started pounding the weights. Honestly I dont think I can gain weight. I eat fast food everyday all day. And dont gain a pound. I am completely new at working out. I doubt I will even notice a size difference. Any pointers you guys could give me? To set me in right direction???
THANKS |

2. Get yourself into a well designed lifting routine. I always push "New Rules of Lifting" because I know of about 30 people other than myself that are doing it with great success. It has great info for new people and Alwyn Cosgrove designed the workouts. |

| | As for food, the Men's Health website has many articles on the subject. Try: Food For Fitness Abs Diet
I myself go with the Abs Diet and the 12 power foods. Has been working out great.

And eat your vegetables! They have more value than just vitamins and minerals. They add an alkaline load to compete against the acidic loading of protein. A diet that is too skewed to protein can cause muscle and bone wasting from the acidic pH. |

| | | You can gain weight if you try. If you're not gaining, you're not trying hard enough. You can begin weight training now, you won't do anything but help the cause. |

The book "Scrawny to Brawny" is made for people who have trouble putting on muscle. |

| | | A lot of people state that they can't put on anything at all, I actually thought that I was like that as well until I learned that I wasn't eating half enough or anything to grow at all. Scrawny to Brawny is a very good book to read for hardgainers, once you read his stuff, you understand why you aren't getting anywhere. |

| | | None of you guys think that biking 8 miles might have something to do with his weight gain struggles? Me and my friends would run 1 mile tops almost every workout day. I've heard you only really need 20 minutes of good cardio a day to keep your heart in good condition. As for situps i think most people disaprove of them now because of the strain it puts on your back. I've done most of my weight training for chest/shoulder/back with free weights on an adjustable bench, this helps build stablizer muscles as well. Crunches and mile run for abs. You gotta decide what suits you best though, goodluck. | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
