Cardio workout to go with lifting routine?

I'm a college discus and hammer thrower and I already have a routine for the season. We lift Monday, Wednesday, Friday and throw five days during the week. Tuesdays and Thursdays I'll do HIIT training with either a jump rope or on a stationary bike. I've backed off on the cardio since we're getting into the season rather than just practice, but on days we lift I might do 30 minutes on a elliptical two days a week.

I've had knee problems in the past so I do fairly "safe" cardio during the year: meaning no running or martial arts. I did Tae Kwon Do for ten years and I miss not doing it during the school year. After the track season is over and then into summer, I usually write a new workout plan to include cardio such as a kickboxing or boxing routines. But I still do my lifting pretty similiar to the school year.

I'm looking for suggestions about my cardio routine. I'm not overweight by any means, but I would like to improve my physical apperance and trim down since I have the muscle build already. I'm looking for a nutrition program and workout routine that coincide with each other. I was thinking either something like P90X or a Jillian Michaels routine. I've been reading reviews on both and they seem like they are an intense workout. I'm considering P90X because it sounds like you can use it with weights for an actual combined weight/cardio routine. Plus I like that it has a diet that follows along with it. I'd consider something by Jillian Michaels because some of her workouts include martial-arts based components. But hers seem to be more with body weight and more of toning.

I'm not sure how I'd add these to my lifting routine. If the P90X would be an option, I could always adapt that system and back off on writing my own routine: even though I'd like to incorperate power cleans/snatches into the workout since those help accelerate the speed and power of throwing. But if I followed something by Jillian Michaels I could probably follow my lifting routine closer. But I wouldn't know the frequency to do the cardio alongside my lifting routines.

I'm still fairly new about the science of exercise and would greatly appreciate any advice. Thanks!
