Cutting (HIIT) but maintaining size..

So Spring Break's coming up soon and I'd like to cut a little bit. I'm currently at 14% BF (5' 8" 155lbs) and would like to try to get that to maybe about 12% (if possible) in the next few weeks but I don't want to lose any size/muscle. Is it still possbie to cut and get those muscles to show even if I'm in a calorie surplus due to gaining? Any suggestions on what I could do in terms of cardio/HIIT?

Also, I remember in high school I wanted to have a six pack so I dropped weight from 150 to 130 (I'm 5' 8") and I saw no change in my abs even though I had been working em out. What gives? Am I just one of those unlucky enough to have bad genetics? I can see my top 2-3 abs (my abs are lopsided. yay.) but the lower belly fat stayed despite the fact that I dropped 20 pounds.

to loose weight you need a calorie deflict, so i would drop some cals, you dont have to drop alot, maybe 500 under you're maintence, i would not drop more than that, since you could risk loosing muscle. Lift heavy, ive never been a fan of higher reps for cutting, since with heavy weights and less food your body will think food is low but you still have to work hard and it will think "well, this is a perfect time to use that fat ive been storing up"

If you're abs dident show before, it could simply be because they werent develouped enough and you're bf wasnt low enough. You need a combination of develouped abs and low BF to get them to show propperly

problem is, doing this in a few weeks is hard. cutting down to get a 6pack takes time!

PS: i must add, if you have a very small calorie surplus, have a flawless diet and a flawless training program, it is possible to loose fat and still gain weight (muscle) but its hard, and its probobly faster to do it the cutting way.

If you lose 2 pounds of weight a week, you won't lose any muscle.

Thanks for the replies. Yea I'm not expecting a miracle or anything. I don't expect a 6 pack to pop out in a matter of weeks but whatever I can do in that amount of time is fine. So if I start losing a bit of weight while doing heavy weights (4-6 reps) will I still look the same thickness, just less BF? My main concern is that I don't lose my mass to get cut cause then I'd rather not.

And for my diet should I eat mostly protein and carbs and very little fat? Like maybe 40/40/20?

if you eat the same as you are now and do hiit sessions 3 or 4 times a wk as well as your weights that will also give you a defecit.

Unless your diet is crap.

My advice would be to cut out junk food for 2 weeks and then go from there. Once you get the bad food out of your head, you can do anything.

I do not believe Jman was directing his post directly at you.
He was talking in general.

I was talking in general. Nothing is worse then making a bad post and then have 4-5 people tell you otherwise.
