Deadlift help....

Hi all,

A question about deadlifts (again!). I've been doing them for a while now and pretty much every day after my lower back is sore. The problem is I'm not sure if it should be...I cant distinguish it from DOMS. I get DOMS pretty bad in my chest always too so I'm wondering if its something in my genes that I get it..

Does anyone else get lower back pain the day after, it really doesnt feel like I'm doing skeletal damage to it...

It's hard to know what you mean by "pain" Is it just slight soreness like you feel in any muscle after working it or something more?

how many sets and reps do you do and how often?
also, I know I say this a lot, but video your deadlift form and post it up. As long as your lower back doesn't round, you should be OK. Sometimes doing high rep deadlifts can be very taxing on the lower back and lead to uncomfort. Also, on high reps it is very easy for form to go out the window.

Well I generally do a warm up set, then a weight with 8 reps, then up the weight for 8-6 reps, then 6-4 and then either superset or 1RM, so higher reps wouldnt be a problem.

I guess it does feel like a pain that I'd get in any other muscle group after working out but with my back I'm really paranoid. I'll have to get a form check video up for criticism....

Do other people get DOSM in their lower backs?

Well I dont 1RM every time, but I'd say 30% of the time I'll try something a little heavier, even if its only 1kg, just to keep me honest!

Thats the problem I think my legs should be stiff as opposed to my lower back, but I suppose my legs might be stronger than my back......definate possibility! I'm hitting the gym tomorrow so hopefully I'll remember my camera!

and yeh I did mean DOMS...my typing is ridiculously bad.....horrendous

I get a soreness in my lower back after punching out some decent reps at high weight, it isnt a pain so I don't think I have injured anything, more of a soreness and tightness to the muscles when I flex my back the next day. I think this is normal of any muscle group but as you pointed out we are all paranoid about our backs after all the OHS stuff you see and back injuries etc.

I get a lot of temporary stiffness (pain?) in my lower back after I am done with about 3-4 sets... I walk around for 5 minutes and it goes away, but yeah that worries me a lot too.
