| | | Deadlift..thoughts I am 240lbs.. I have never done Deadlifts before this.. so..
I did 3 sets of 8 reps of 135 on Deadlift and felt like someone kicked my ass.. is this normal? Since I read that Deadlifts should be higher then my Squats..
Before this I did six sets of Squats just as an FYI
10 reps a piece, 45,135,225,315,225,135 |

| | | False alarm. I was probably just burnt out from Squats. Got a 1rm of 315 for Deadlift today. Which makes me feel better. |

| | | You've never done deadlifts before, and so yo unot only felt that it would be wise to immediately test your 1rm, but you pulled 315? Not only was that poor judgment and could have left you with significant injury, but it is extremely likely that your form was horrible in doing so |

| | | Yeah, careful there buddy. You can really hurt yourself trying to pull that kind of weight on a first time 1rm. Take bip's advice and back it off a bit until you are sure of your form. |

| | | I understand your concern, I am very concerned myself when it came to doing Deadlifts. I spent a lot of time reading up on proper form and watching the vids on Deadlift T Nation "Mastering the Deadlift", and while I am sure I still had crappy form I tried to adhere to all the rules I have read/watched. I didn't immediately jump into 315. I did 15 reps with just the bar, then 15 reps with 135. The still feeling good, tried 225 which was heavy but I felt I could do more.
So I agree slowing it down is good, and working on my form is priority numero uno. I wish I could find people at my gym for form advice, but I haven't seen a single person do Deadlifts, and the trainers are almost always with clients.
So in this theme, got any video or site recommendations for instructions? |

| | | Here was the form I adhered too..
Feet shoulder width
Arms just outside the legs
Toes under the barbell
Eyes straight ahead
I only used a mixed grip on the 315 pull
Shoulders back, chest out
Back straight
Lift with the legs and hips, then straightening up on the lockout
Keep weight near to body, though I did not drag it up my shins or thighs
My partner said that my back rounded slightly when I was returning the weight back to the floor (on the 315 pull).

Ugh... it's not likely someone at your gym (maybe, but definitely not at mine) can tell you anything abot deadlift form.
Don't do any 1rm stuff if you've never done deadlift's before, that's asking for injury. | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
