| other than just lots of practice, (i know, i know, borrringgg), i used to play paradiddles and others rudaments on a pillow, because there is no bounce, so you have to pull the stick back up. I used to do that most days if watching tv or something.
I also found that getting some bigger heavier sticks worked wonders, im usually a 5b but when they all broke my mate gave me some old ones, which were massive, after using them until i bought new ones, when i played with 5b's again it seemed much faster and easier. so ive always had the bigger ones just for practice, and using them on the pillow.
i know people always talk about rudiements blah blah, but if you actually do play some your overall drumming will pickup, i used to play paradiddles and ruffs etc, for 5 minutes as fast as i could for as long as i could, you'll notice the world of difference especially for that lagging left (or right) hand.
Other than those, and obviously cardio helps your general fitness and endurance, i never found any other weights or exercise helped or hindered drumming for me, although weights made me quicker at unloading the vans.

p.s. twirling your sticks about doesn't really help, but it looks mighty impressive. |
