Dumbells problem help please!

I have a problem with my weight training and not sure what to do.

I haven't been training long just over a month or so, started bench pressing 60lbs with dumbells lol lightweight.

(I do 3-4 full body workout a week)

I am now up to 90lbs (40kg) and I am getting to the max I can put on the dumbell because it isnt long enough to put any more weight discs.

I am making great progress but I cannot put more weight onto the dumbells!

I have a barbell but my room just isnt big enough to use it in!

I don't really have a spare room or anything which I can work out in, our house is pretty small.

What alternatives can I do?
Can I get longer dumbells so I can put more discs on?

Do I have to start using the Barbell? Even though it is extremely difficult in my tiny room!

Local gym is out of the question, they dont even have a bench press in there! (useless ******* lol)

I am not sure on what to do, I can't keep lifting the same weights or else I am not going to go anywhere.

I do not want to have to travel to work out, neither do I want to be lugging weights around my house.

you will probobly have to get longer dumbells that can handle more weight plates, or, weight plates that are smaller or just narrower so you can get more on the DB.

join a gym?

I also wouldn't feel bad about 60lb dumbbell presses, and you should pat yourself on the back for hitting 90lbs.

I think a 'real gym' would open up a new world for you.

I would maybe be better off jumping in my car and joining a local gym, the closest one is a pile of **** though.

I think the only chest workout they have is a 'pec deck'

The only thing I am not too fond about is having to drive somewhere every time I want to work out - sometimes I work out quite late at night if I am bored or busy earlier on in the day.

I will be happy when I can bench my own bodyweight

Anyone else have these problems with dumbells? Or is it just me?

A gym without a bench press??? What kind of gym is that??!!

Can you get heavier plates for the dumbbells, so if the heaviest is a 25, you could get more 25s? But in my opinion, find a way to start using the barbell. The barbell is a great switch from the dumbbell and will really open up new avenues.

The weight you're tackling with the dumbbells sounds excellent!!

Joining a gym is definitely the way to go.

It's usually a great environment, you can meet other people who are really interested in fitness, and you can get advice from trainers who have been through whatever you've been through and really know what they're talking about.

That being said, gym memberships typically don't come cheap. If you don't have enough money for a membership, find a place outside you can use the barbell without hitting anything.

THAT being said, only use the barbell if you have someone to watch you and make sure you don't hurt yourself.

Don't be ashamed of the amount of weight you're doing, everyone's different. I don't put up all that much and I'm somewhat of a big guy, but there are skinny dudes I know who put up way more than they look like they should be able to put up. Also, if you think about it, you increased the amount of weight you were doing by 50% in about a month... that's pretty significant!

Keep up the good work, and keep us posted on how you're doing.

Visiting this forum is part of my day now lol since becoming addicted to working out!

One other thing which can be a pain is swapping the weights from barbell to dumbell lol.

Hopefully in a few weeks I will be able to bench my own bodyweight which would be cool.

Sometimes whilst lifting during the later stages of my workout I pull funny faces because I am tired and struggling to lift.

I hope no-one watches you in the gym lol
