LBP - Lower Back Pain Query!

I seem to have picked up an injury on my lower back, it's preventing me from squatting, deadlifting or doing any exercise which involves using the lower back.

I'm not sure how I picked the injury up exactly, although I don't think it wasn't from weight lifting. I've had it since Monday, so it's caused me to miss 2 and I was wondering if anyone could give me any idea how long this kinda thing lasts?

Anyway the injury means that I get a sharp shooting/stabbing pain in the right side of my lower back, in fact its very low on the LB. It occurs when I'm on the way UP from a motion such as squatting/DL'ing or sometimes even getting up from a seated position, but it's obviously worse when there's weight involved. The pain lasts only a moment or two and then its gone.

Even though the pain's gotten less and less over the last 3 days, it still exists and its enough to stop me being able to workout so any advice as to how long this kind of injury tends to last or how to speed up recovery would be MUCH appreciated!

No history of back problems

Thanks.

I have the EXACT same problem.. also on the right side mainly (but not really when getting up from chairs).... i've had it since i started with weights... no never been able to squat or deadlift....

Even deadlifting with 10 pounds is painful...

I've been doing hyperextensions and weighted hyperextensions for the last 3 or so weeks but i still cannot even come close to squatting or deadlifting... i still recommend these exercises though....

Other than that i have no idea and wish i knew how to fix it..

Yep it's annoying isn't it.. Mine's only been so for the last few days but even that is getting very annoying cuz it stops me from doing the main exercises.

Initially I thought "slipped disc" or summat but i'm fairly certain its nothing that serious.. If anyone has any experience with this, feel free to respond!

Ok something I have some experience with LOL.

I injured my lower back in a car accident when I was 16. It really bothered me through my 20's with regular visits to the Chiro. He gave me a whole gamet of stretches to do for it and I do them daily after every work out. Since I've been doing them I've been almost totally pain free.

frist one is put your leg up on a countertop keeping it straight and hold it there for a 10 count. Repeat as with each leg 8-10 times. When you first do it your back is going to crack like a mother f#cker. Its going to hurt until you get used to it.

Second one is to lay flat on your back with your ankles as close to your butt as possible. Knees bent obviously. Now rotate your hips until your legs hit the floor keeping your knees bent. repeat this 8-10 times for each leg.

third one is laying on the floor in the same position push down into the floor with your lower back raising your butt slightly off the floor and hold. Almost like you're having sex with her on top. LOL

The key to these is to breathe and let your muscles totally relax. You're back is going to crack alot and its going to hurt at first but I've been doing these everyday for a few years now and I haven't been to the chiro in about 2 years.

PM me if I didn't make it clear enough for you.

Shanks, make an appointment with a sports medicine doctor that specializes in orthopaedic surgery. Have her/him assess you; don't rely on forums for advice on injuries like yours.

Thanks Kraken! Although to be honest, I don't think my injury is anywhere near as severe as yours.. The pain really is VERY localized. The exercises sound useful though, I've actually tried variations of those just on my own initiative.. Much appreciated.

I think I'll heed Evo's advice, I'm gonna give it another few days and if it isn't fixed I'm gonna go see someone about it! Thinking GP first and hopefully if it is something serious, I'll get referred.

I'm hopeful for a recovery though as it does seem to be improving day-by-day, just very slowly! Of course, if it recovers and then it reoccurs, I'll be right off to the doc's.

Thanks again.
