New here - so confused!

** I posted this in the men's health section in error oops!

Hello everyone,

I have tried and tried to exercise for the past 7 years (after having my daughter) I have bought several workouts in that attempt. But can never stick with any program. I have decided thats enough I just have to do it. The problem is I don't know which one to do. I have Slim in 6, Power 90, several Tae bo videos, The firm, core secrets. (im such a loser I know!!) Anyways, I am 5'2" weigh 120lbs I am 29 years old. I just want to tone up so there is no jiggle especially on my thighs and stomach. Can someone here help - tell me which one of these workouts will be most effective? The only thing that I am most concerned about it I have kind of a flat butt I am self concious about it and have read that squats, lunges and dead lifts are what I can do to increase and tone this area. But the weights will using 10 pound weights in each hand help or no? PLEASE someone help guide me!!!

Hi Yasmin, I'm new here too.......I've gotten lots of great tips so far Someone more "experienced" should be along soon to help you out. I"ve tried the taebo dvd one time, and I was soooo lost, lol. I just do my own things w/the handweights and exercise ball for now, so far so good!

Hi Yasmin! You're not a loser! And it says a lot about you that you are seriously wanting to improve things!

First off, I'm not expert but I've been hanging around here long enough to give my two cents. Nutrition will play a key role in reaching your goals. Try to eat at least 5-7 meals with a carb/protein combo. Drink lot's of water and stay away from anything boxed, fried etc. Try to eat whole foods, as close to nature as possible.

As far as your workouts, squats lunges and deadlifts are great for targeting the butt and legs! I swear by them, they have done wonders for me. Start off without weights if that's what it will take to get good form, which is key to getting the best results. Then incorporate weights, but if you think you can have good form with your 10's then go for it!

Thanks you

Moonbeam, you say squats have done wonders for you I am curious, what was it like before you started what did you do exatly and how long before you saw results?

You are so right about the eating part ( I was just going to go out for lunch now I feel guilty!!)

I saw results right away but I have been working out for a while-I had hit a plateau and it was time to change my routine around and also get my butt in gear with my eating. I was doing some things wrong and I've learned a lot since. I had not been following my own advise above about the eating

I'm in my 10th week of my routine/diet and I've started changing it around already so my body doesn't get used to it. You're welcome to visit my diary!

I started doing 3 sets of 12 each of lunges, squats and deadlifts. My weights started at 8 then I slowly moved up. On some, like deadlifts, I can lift more weight, while others, like squats I'm still doing lower weights.

Lift as heavy as you can for you (while still maintaining good form), it will differ from what is heavy for me or anyone else...

Can anyone help with which one of the videos I should do? I think my mistake is I try to do them everyday and what ends up happeniing is one day I don't feel like it so I skip a day and feel dissapointed so I end up stopping altogether only start up again after 2 months or so!

Well, rest days are important too - muscles aren't built in the gym but rather when you rest and recover.

Well - I'm a newbie here and am NOT an expert by any stretch of the imagination....but, I can tell you what works for me and that is variety. I also do all my workouts by video - it motivates me to push myself a little further than maybe I would on my own. Anyway, I have several different workout videos and workouts I've recorded with my DVR and I just switch them up. so the day I'm not in the mood for a big sweat, I will do a lower key workout. I don't know any of those videos you mentioned, but maybe if they are different enough that strategy would work for you too. Good luck
