Newbie with Questions

Hey everyone-
Summer is just starting- and I'm in the mood to get in shape. My job slows down in the summer so I have more personal time and I'd like to start lifting. I'm a "skinny" guy- 6 foot 155 pounds- and I want to get bigger- well bigger muscles anway. I have been talking to various people and was told that I "NEED more protein" so I bought some whey protein. thats about 20g per serving. I am also planning on lifting about an hour a day- in the mornings 5 days a week. My first question is - is 5 times a week to much? My routine would be about 1/2 hour of smaller muscle groups IE- my calves, forarms, gluts, and a 10 min ab workout. Then I am doing a focus muscle for each day for the next i/2 hour. IE- monday- bi, tuesday- chest, wednesday- tri, thurs- shoulders, friday- chest agian. I read on this post that I should rest a day inbetween- what if I just rested the muscle group a day? and not my whole body? is that good or bad? Thanks a lot for any help you could give
Scott

read these articles for starters:

and if you still don't feel like you know enough, browse the internet... there's plenty of 'beginner guides' that will answer all your questions concerning muscle gaining.
if you're still stuck with questions then, ask them here
