| | | bench because pushups are more for triceps. I think if you try inclined pushups (put your legs on the edge of a chair) then you might feel more chest workout. I used to do pushups quite a bit for a short while, I think my triceps got much bigger. |

Back to my main question though, which one helps your chest develop and get bigger faster, bench or pushups. |

| | | I'm not an expert, I'm just repeating what I've read here before. I tend to keep my arms straight below me. When doing inclines I can see my outer pecs get bigger and stuff. But I think triceps are hit more. Yea definitely go for bench if you want more of a chest workout I think. |

| | | Push ups are better for your abs, but benching is better for chest development. Why? The reason is simple:
Overoad. In order to increase muscle size, you need to progressively overload the muscles. Chances are, you can, or soon will be able to do more than 15 pushups. From then on, it's tougher to overload a pushup, than dumbbells or barbells when benching.
Yuo need to be fatigue the muscles by rep # 6-12, with high volumes and low rest between sets. |

yea im basically burning out. do you think this is a recipe for success or should i change up my routine? this seems like a lot but 20 mins after i do it i dont feel anything. does my body have a good recovery rate or what. someone help me out. another question i have is how many months do you think itll take for me to get a fully toned nice chest and biceps if i workout about 4 times a week. ive been working out for about 3 weeks now and im seeing some results. thanks.
EDIT: one last question should i start with like 185 lbs and go down or start with around 100 and go up as i workout? |

| | | I do similar work when I lift too, but I reduce the weight by 25% immediately after my last set, and then blast out as many reps as I can with a final set.
For example, if I'm using 50lb dumbbells for my bench press, I'll do three sets of 10, and then immediately after my third set, I'll grab the 30lb dumbbells and do as many as I can. (Usually, I can do about 6 without losing form, and then the 7th is a tough one.)
If you REALLY want to stress your muscles, after you can't do anymore weight on the last last set (lol), reduce it by a further 25% and keep going! I've actually done this a few ways, until I'm benching nothing but 10lb dumbbells.
