shoulder training

is it preferable to work the shoulders/triceps with lighter weights for more reps when you are doing heavy bench press training.?

If your working for mass, then no. Your shoulders wouldnt develop like your chest etc if you only did light weight with it. Pile on the weight for everything and mix it up a bit.

Treat every major muscle group the same. Otherwise, you might develop an imbalance which could hinder your progress.
