is it so?

today i was talking to a friend and she was asking if hav started loosing any weight and what am i doing for it(as i am almost four months postpartum and have started exercising a week before).
i told her i do 30 mins cardio(runing/walking on treadmill)for half an hour then give half an hour to weights n doing them at home.

as i have come from 125 to 150 now with a height of 5'5 and i know its pretty too much.
she said u should continue ur cardio n leave the weigh thing,, as it is only going to make me broader and i m going to gain more weight(muscle).
i just wanted to know is it so? do u think what i m doing is wrong?

i dont follow any particular diet but i do hav a strong eye on my calorie and fat intake.

please do reply,, i want to know if what i m doing is wrong or that girl is just trying to show her brains?

Couple of things - first is English your first language? Some of the wording was tough to understand but it makes sense if English is a second language. If not, well try to work on your grammar.

Second - The best way to get fit is to combine a resistance (weight) workout with a cardio workout just like you are doing! You will not get "big" or "broad" unless you workout specifically to get into that shape, and I doubt that you are doing that. You will gain muscle, but that is something that you want. Muscle burns calories much faster than fat so the more muscle you have the more fat you burn.

One change that I would make to your routine is to do the weights before you do the cardio. You should see even better results doing it that way. For your cardio, it sounds like you are on the right track with 30 minutes. Just keep it steady and you will be fine. For the weights, do a relatively light weight/high rep (most weight you can do for 3 to 5 sets of 10 to 15 reps) workout and you will be fine. No chance of getting big if you do that.
